BAFTA Cymru Appoints Lee Walters as Chair

As a fervent admirer of the arts, particularly in my beloved Wales, I could not be more thrilled about Lee Walters taking over as the BAFTA Cymru chair! With his extensive background at the BBC and his current role leading Ffilm Cymru Wales, it’s clear that he’s got the chops to guide our creative talents towards even greater heights.

Lee Walters will serve as Wales‘ BAFTA Cymru chair, it has been unveiled on Monday.

As of 2023, I’ve stepped into the shoes of Walter, now the CEO at Ffilm Cymru Wales – the creative powerhouse behind Welsh cinema. It’s an honor to follow BAFTA Cymru Award-winning presenter Angharad Mair, who held this position for nine years before me.

BAFTA Cymru, founded around three and a half decades ago, exists to foster, honor, and cultivate creative abilities in the realm of Wales.

As the chairman, Lee guides the BAFTA Cymru board, directing their efforts to promote and foster the film, video game, and television sectors in Wales. This is achieved primarily through the yearly BAFTA Cymru Awards and a series of organized events.

The committee additionally manages the granting of scholarships for Prince William’s BAFTAs. In April 2023, Walters was appointed as a member of the BAFTA Wales committee.

Before my tenure with Ffilm Cymru Wales, I had a rich and diverse 15-year journey at the BBC, concluding in a strategic position as a senior change manager, where I played a key role in establishing the new BBC Wales headquarters right in the heart of Cardiff. (As a fan, this is how I would put it.)

As I step into Angharad Mair’s shoes as Chair of BAFTA Cymru, I can’t help but feel incredibly honored. Angharad has been an incredible advocate for our industry and the immense talent right here in Wales during her tenure. I am excited to build on that legacy.
