As a seasoned Esports enthusiast who has witnessed countless battles and tournaments unfold across various platforms, I must say that the announcement of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang returning to the Esports World Cup is music to my ears!
It appears that the Esports World Cup 2024 has been quite a hit or at least very impressive, leading several publishers to announce the comeback of their top games in 2025. Garena’s Free Fire has already made its return confirmation, and now Mobile Legends: Bang Bang from Moonton is also set to join the roster.
At the Esports World Cup, two tournaments sponsored by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang took place. These were the MLBB Mid Season Cup and the MLBB Women’s Invitational. Teams representing various global regions travelled to Riyadh for these competitions.
The MSC saw Selangor Red Giants take home the gold, while the Women’s Invitational was won by Smart Omega Empress when they took down Team Vitality, which up until that point had boasted an unbroken win streak of 25 consecutive championships dating back to 2021.
Big, but big enough?
It appears that most games showcased in the past Esports World Cup will likely be repeated. Yet, despite their strong presence, it seems that only a handful, if any, are organizing significant tournaments.
In simpler terms, having MLBB’s main event labeled as a mid-season cup might imply to fans that the Esports World Cup is perceived more as a secondary or supplementary event rather than the primary one. On one hand, this could be positive since it means the EWC doesn’t overshadow other leagues. However, on the other hand, it can also be seen as a disadvantage because it might appear to play second fiddle to the main event.
Regardless, for all the enthusiasts out there, you’ll undoubtedly find joy as numerous participants return to this sparkling competition.
