CBS Orders Multi-Cam Pilot ‘Zarna’ From Darlene Hunt, Zarna Garg

As a passionate fan of diverse and dynamic storytelling, I am absolutely thrilled about CBS’s new multi-cam show, Zarna! The fact that stand-up comedian Zarna Garg is not only starring but also writing and executive producing this show is a testament to her incredible talent and versatility.

CBS ordered a pilot for new multi-cam show Zarna, the network announced Tuesday.

In the upcoming show, the stand-up comedian Zarna Garg will take center stage as a character who takes pride in being an immigrant woman. She has been instilling Indian values in her children, who were born in America. As they are growing up, the storyline shifts, with the focus moving towards this character pursuing her own American aspirations.

Garg additionally takes on the roles of writer and executive producer, while Darlene Hunt assumes responsibilities as both writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Mindy Kaling, Jessica Kumai Scott, and their team at Kaling International will also serve as executive producers. Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein from Hartbeat Productions will join the team, as well. Warner Bros. Television is in charge of production.

In 2023, Garg unveiled her Amazon comedy special titled “One in a Billion“. This same year, she featured as herself in the television series “A Nice Indian Boy“, led by Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni. On TikTok, she’s gained close to a million followers for her humorous skits. Prior to her career in entertainment, Garg studied law, practiced as a lawyer, and later became a stay-at-home mom. Her memoir, “This American Woman“, is set to be published next April.
