After FBI: International's Bloody Fall Finale Cliffhanger, I'm Flashing Back To Vinessa Vidotto's Comments About Vo's Hopes For The Future

As a dedicated fan of FBI: International, I must say that the fall finale left me absolutely stunned. The title “You’ll Never See It Coming” was more than just a clever play on words; it felt like a personal message from the writers straight to my heart. The cliffhanger with Vo hanging on by a thread was a gut-wrenching reminder of why we tune in week after week – to feel the tension, the suspense, and the emotional rollercoaster that this show delivers so masterfully.

Here comes a warning for those yet to watch the Season 4 finale of FBI: International, titled “You’ll Never Guess What Happens Next”. This episode was broadcasted on CBS and can be streamed by subscribers on Paramount+.

scarcely has a television series left me as startled by an episode title as FBI: International did during its fall finale, which wrapped up the 2024 TV season, since I never anticipated such a turn when the episode concluded with Vo’s life hanging in the balance and Wes teaming up with Tyler for some unofficial justice against the perpetrator. Although the final scene showed Wes and Tyler preparing to defy the law and avenge Vo, what truly struck me was the unexpected revelation that Vo’s chances of surviving her surgery aren’t promising as we head into the 2025 TV season, with a grim prognosis looming.

Apart from stirring my emotions with his performance, the unexpected turn in the story brought to mind what Vinessa Vidotto shared with TopMob last season regarding Vo’s aspirations for her upcoming journey.

What Happened To Vo In “You’ll Never See It Coming”

In the final fall episode, Vo took a risk by creating an adversary in Greg Csonka, but it wasn’t him who ultimately caused harm to her. Despite the foreshadowing of her being shot in previews for the episode, I never anticipated things would turn out as grimly as they did. The assailant was armed with a rifle and fired from afar, striking Vo not in an area covered by her bulletproof vest, but rather on her collarbone.

Wes quite literally had blood on his hands, and Raines stayed behind at the hospital for the latest updates on his teammate. He later had this news to drop on the rest of the Fly Team:

During the operation, she was losing a considerable amount of blood, but they were successfully addressing the issue. However, unexpectedly, complications arose, and medical professionals are concerned that she might have gone into shock, and the prognosis appears unfavorable at this moment.

In the scene, Raines fought hard to maintain his composure as he relayed the news, a captivating act by Carter Redwood. It brought back memories of when Vo and Raines used to regularly appear together on screen. Moreover, I must commend FBI: International for crafting dialogue that made me momentarily believe Vo had passed away until he made it clear that things weren’t looking hopeful for him.

Reflecting on the past, I still find myself tense whenever a character from any of the three FBI series seems close to death. Unfortunately, we won’t get more insight into what happens next with FBI: International until its winter premiere in January. Instead, my thoughts have been drifting back to when I had a conversation with Vinesssa Vidotto in the spring, discussing Vo’s significant undercover case during Season 3.

Vinessa Vidotto On Vo’s Hopes For Her Career

During our chat with Vinessa Vidotto for Season 3 in March, we couldn’t foresee that Vo would be near death’s door by the year’s end. Interestingly, as the season progressed, Vo had moved up to become Forrester’s second-in-command and assumed a leadership role within the Fly Team following Kellett’s departure from Budapest.

The actress admitted that playing Vo’s ascension wasn’t an easy feat as it required a swift adaptation and presented challenges. However, she managed by envisioning herself auditioning for another character who had already attained this position within the Bureau, indicating a rapid promotion for her character. Despite Vo’s long-standing ambition to progress in the Bureau, this sudden leap was indeed significant.

At one point, the young agent experienced a significant shift, making me ponder about how it felt for Vo to all of a sudden wield authority over her previous colleagues, much like Carter Redwood’s Raines. Vidotto addressed this question quite some time ago in March, and her response resonates deeply now with an intense emotional impact.

We’ve definitely thought about that! And we’re always poking fun at each other, because obviously as characters, both him and I are competing to be the Director of the FBI. It’s been fun on the sidelines to play around with him about each other’s positions.

There was no tension between Vo and Raines regarding her sudden promotion to second-in-command on the Fly Team, and it seems like the actors enjoyed playing with the unexpected plot development backstage. Vidotto further mentioned another unusual aspect of the storyline where Vo’s aspiration for advancement within the FBI felt odd, expressing this sentiment.

Despite our different ages, it’s unusual for me, being the youngest, to take charge and communicate assertively with those who are older than me, like Vinessa. It’s an odd sensation! [laughs] I have to be self-assured about it. Even when someone is around my age, like Raines, it’s intriguing indeed. It’s a peculiar feeling.

Will the events of Season 4 finale of FBI: International affect Vo’s aspirations for the future? The finale of this show is typically left on a cliffhanger, more so than its other spin-offs like the original FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, which have a history of character deaths. Here’s hoping that Vo will be on the path to healing by the start of the new year, before any irreversible actions are taken by Wes and Tyler. If things take a turn for the worse with Vo… then the words Vinessa Vidotto spoke in the spring will hold an even greater emotional weight.

The series FBI: International is coming back on Tuesday, January 27th at 9 PM Eastern Time on CBS. It will air after FBI at 8 PM ET and before FBI: Most Wanted at 10 PM ET. If you’d like to rewatch the significant Vo episode from Season 3, it’s available for streaming with a Peacock subscription now.
