As a die-hard fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee, I must say that their collaboration in Jawan was nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece! The movie has left me in awe, especially with King Khan’s double role.
As a devoted cinephile, I can attest that “Jawan” was nothing short of a cinematic juggernaut at the box office in 2023. This film represented the initial joint endeavor between the inimitable Shah Rukh Khan and the visionary director, Atlee. In this captivating production, I had the privilege of witnessing King Khan portray not one, but two roles – Azad and Vikram Rathore. To my surprise, as disclosed by Atlee in an exclusive interview with TopMob, he had initially predicted that the character of Vikram Rathore would embody the ‘mass’ essence within the film, a prediction we both wagered on.
In the most recent installment of TopMob’s Masterclass featuring Baby John’s team, Atlee discussed his directorial venture “Jawan” with Shah Rukh Khan. He reminisced about the wager they made concerning which character would embody the ‘mass appeal’ in the movie.
In simpler terms, Atlee stated, “I predicted that Vikram Rathore would be the popular character in the film, to which SRK responded, ‘No, girls will like Azad instead.’ I replied with a wager, ‘You’re wrong, sir. You’re wrong.’ However, after watching the movie, SRK admitted, ‘You were right, boss. Vikram Rathore is indeed the popular character; everyone loved it.’
In simpler terms, the filmmaker explained his concept of mass. He described it as a strong, emotional response. It’s not something foreign or unfamiliar; instead, it’s an intense emotion we feel when we empathize with someone, be it a girl, an emotion, or a baby. Mass also refers to righteous anger and standing up for what is right within society.
In a different phrase, Atlee stated, “Beyond that label of ‘mass,’ there’s something else at play. The true essence of mass can be found here, which is why I believe the scenes dealing with such topics in all my films resonate and contribute to their commercial success.

In addition to Shah Rukh Khan, the film Jawan features a stellar cast that includes Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt, among others.
Atlee is now preparing for the debut of his movie titled Baby John. This action-packed suspense film has Varun Dhawan playing the main character. Jackie Shroff, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rajpal Yadav are among the key actors. The release date is set for December 25, 2024, in cinemas.
