As a proud Canadian, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see our homegrown talent being recognized for their remarkable achievements both at home and abroad. Ryan Reynolds, a true embodiment of Canadian humility and charm, is a perfect example of this. His Hollywood success, coupled with his unwavering dedication to charitable causes, makes him an inspiration not just to Canadians, but to the world.
Actor Ryan Reynolds, famously known for his roles as Deadpool and Wolverine, has been chosen to receive the Order of Canada – Canada’s highest civilian distinction.
In addition to his thriving career in Hollywood as an actor and producer, Ryan Reynolds was recognized by Governor General Mary Simon for his philanthropic efforts. These involve organizations like Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver, Sick Kids Foundation, and various projects aimed at empowering underprivileged groups.
The citation for the Order of Canada noted his extensive charitable efforts as something that bolsters communities across the country. Recently, the Producer of the Year award from The Hollywood Reporter was given to him in New York City, and during an interview, he expressed pride in being Canadian, stating, “Canada feels like one of my parents. It instilled values within me that I’ve found useful nearly every week since I left home at 18 or 19 years old.
Recipients of the Order of Canada also include former CEO of Universal Music Canada and Bell Media, Randy Lennox. “It’s an honor to work in the creative field I adore,” Lennox stated regarding the recognition he received, which he never anticipated. “I am deeply moved by this accolade,” he added.
I couldn’t accomplish any of this without the amazing artists, collaborators, and colleagues I’ve worked with over the years,” the long-time Canadian music and media executive remarked.
Additionally, author Maureen Jennings, renowned for her Detective William Murdoch novel series which was later transformed into the popular TV show “The Murdoch Mysteries” featuring Yannick Bisson, is also part of the recent group of 88 Canadians inducted into the Order of Canada.
Apart from being acknowledged, Canada is also associated with the acclaimed folksinger Heather Rankin, who gained fame through her individual performances and as a member of the legendary band, The Rankin Family.
