As a longtime comic book enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of characters and storylines over the years, I am beyond excited for Matthew Rosenberg and Stefano Landini’s upcoming creator-owned series, “We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us.” The duo’s previous work on The Punisher was nothing short of brilliant, and their new venture promises a fresh take with a 13-year-old girl named Annalise seeking revenge in an adventure that recalls the James Bond of the ’70s.
During the mid to late 2010s, I found myself immersed in an extraordinary comic book series that reimagined the life of Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. Instead of keeping him confined within the realm of crime, Matthew Rosenberg and Stefano Landini brilliantly inserted him into the vast Marvel Universe, placing him on a path of vengeance.
Revenge is something that Rosenberg and Landini can’t forget, but it’s not like the kind of revenge you see in Marvel comics. Instead, they are joining forces once again for a comic they created themselves, titled “We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us“. This exciting, new six-issue miniseries will launch in March 2025 with Image Comics, featuring an extended first issue.
In this captivating tale, I find myself as a young girl named Annalise, thrust into a world of solitude following the brutal demise of my eccentric scientist father at the hands of the globe’s most elusive secret agent. Accompanying me on this journey is my late father’s loyal robotic protector. Faced with an unprecedented opportunity, I must weigh my options: embark on a quest for normalcy or channel my grief towards vengeance and potentially redefine the global order along the way.
According to Rosenberg, speaking from Dublin, Ireland where his comic ‘4 Kids Walks Into a Bank’ is being filmed as an adaptation, he mentioned that there are only a few strong motivating factors in stories, and love and revenge are the most potent. He was excited about creating a story that combines both elements, aiming to craft a brutal revenge tale filled with love and compassion to explore how these contrasting ideas intersect.
The comic’s inspiration stemmed from an unsuccessful Marvel publication. Rosenberg and Landini were supposed to collaborate on a title for the publisher years ago, but then the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. This chaos at the publisher caused their book to collapse in 2021. “Stefano called and suggested, ‘Why don’t we create our own book?’ He mentioned he wanted to work with a robot,” Rosenberg reminisced. “Then Stefano sent me a design for a robot.
In his statement, Landini described the story as an adventure reminiscent of ’70s James Bond, blended with elements of Tokusatsu, all set within a fictional universe where humans share their existence with robots, exoskeletons, and advanced weaponry.
For several years, Rosenberg penned stories for Marvel before shifting to DC, where his work included the popular cross-genre series, “DC vs. Vampires“. Unfortunately, this series will conclude next year. However, it’s worth noting that he is also planning a lineup of independent comic books at the same time.
He expressed his strong desire to produce his own work, saying, “The urge to bring forth my own creations grew too powerful.” He also mentioned, “I have several upcoming books scheduled for release next year, and this one will mark the beginning of that series.
On March 26, you’ll find multiple cover options for issue No. 1, featuring artwork by Landini, Mattia De Lulis, Josh Hood, Chip Zdarsky, Martin Simmonds, and others.
