As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for sci-fi and action films, I must say that this blockbuster production left me absolutely spellbound! The interplay of characters, the epic battles, and the heartwarming moments were nothing short of spectacular.

heads up: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 plot points could be a surprise if you haven’t watched it yet. The previous two Sonic the Hedgehog films were huge hits, and the latest addition to the series hit theaters on December 20th. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the story soars to new heights, visiting places such as Tokyo, London, and even outer space during its run. The first two movies are already fondly remembered for their side-splitting pop culture jokes and endearing cast of characters, like Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic and Idris Elba portraying Knuckles. However, the third film builds upon this foundation.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast and a fervent fan of the Sonic franchise, I can’t contain my excitement about Keanu Reeves lending his voice to the enigmatic Shadow the Hedgehog from our beloved video games. This brooding antagonist is on a quest for vengeance against those who imprisoned him for half a century. The charismatic Jim Carrey makes a triumphant return, playing not one but two roles: Ivo Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, both adorning prosthetics to bring these characters to life.

In the closing stages of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, Grandpa Gerald and the antagonist, Ivo Robotnik, employ a stolen keycard to set off the Eclipse Cannon – a weapon created by Gerald. Ivo had aided Gerald in hijacking this cannon with the intent of obliterating G.U.N.’s headquarters, a place where Gerald had been locked up for half a century. Together, Ivo, Gerald, and Shadow the Hedgehog travel into space aboard the Eclipse Cannon’s station.

In space, Gerald Robotnik presents suits he made for both Gerald and Ivo. Then, Gerald instructs Shadow to load the cannon with energy from the hedgehog, perplexing Ivo who questions why so much power is needed to destroy G.U.N. headquarters. However, it’s later revealed that Gerald intends to obliterate the entire world, which would inevitably end the lives of both Ivo and Gerald as well.

It becomes clear through memory sequences that G.U.N tragically took Maria, Gerald’s granddaughter, during an attempt to apprehend Shadow, inciting a desire for vengeance in Gerald. Since Shadow was close friends with Maria, he’s ready to assist Gerald. However, Ivo is less supportive of Gerald’s scheme, as he fears that if the world is destroyed, there will be nothing more for him to dominate.

During the process of retrieving the keycard for the Eclipse Cannon, Shadow causes Tom Wachowski to lose consciousness. This infuriates Sonic, leading him to leave his team behind in pursuit of Wade Whipple and the Master Emerald to thwart Robotniks and Shadow. Enraged, Sonic summons the Master Emerald’s power, transforming into Super Sonic, then leaps into space.

In a swift turn of events, Sonic careens through the Eclipse Cannon base, prompting Gerald to dispatch Shadow in pursuit. Consequently, Sonic and Shadow plummet back towards Earth, during which mishap, Sonic unwittingly lets go of the Master Emerald, fragmenting it into the seven Chaos Emeralds. With both hedgehogs scrambling for these emeralds, they each end up with approximately half of the chaos energy.

In a series of global confrontations, Super Sonic and Super Shadow persist in their fight. Their conflict eventually leads them to the moon, where they pause for a heartfelt conversation. During this moment, Sonic shares the affection he’s experienced in his life, both on his home planet and on Earth. Shadow ponders the love Maria had for him, leading him to make a crucial decision. Realizing that Maria wouldn’t have wanted him to assist Gerald Robotnik in avenging the world, Shadow chooses to aid Sonic instead.

Later at the station, Ivo Robotnik clashes with his grandfather, wielding abilities from his newly acquired suit. Nevertheless, Gerald manages to subdue Ivo, almost hurling him off into space. But just in time, Tails and Knuckles appear to aid Ivo. They shove Gerald into the cannon’s energy core, effectively annihilating the malevolent scientist.

In the meantime, Sonic and Shadow transform into their powerful forms to obstruct the laser from the cannon from hitting Earth. Shadow absorbs the laser’s energy, but Sonic gets knocked unconscious. Tails and Knuckles then leave the space station and plummet back down to Earth, grabbing Sonic en route, and using a gold ring as a portal to safely land.

In outer space, Shadow and Dr. Robotnik discover they cannot undo the effects of the cannon. Instead, they opt to divert the laser beam away from Earth to save the world. Shadow exerts force from the exterior of the spacecraft, while Dr. Robotnik manages the cannon from within. Before the cannon reaches maximum power, a video message is sent to Earth by Dr. Robotnik, expressing gratitude towards Agent Stone for their friendship. As a result, the Eclipse Cannon implodes, forming a black hole outside Earth’s boundaries.

After returning to Earth, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles meet up again with Tom and Maddie Wachowski. Tom is mostly healed now, but his arm is in a sling. The group spends a peaceful camping trip together, enjoying some relaxation. It’s not just Tom who recovers; it turns out that Shadow the Hedgehog is still alive, as hinted at in the end credits scene.
