Art Evans, Star of 'Christine' & 'Die Hard 2', Dies Aged 82

As a long-time movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Hollywood, I can say that Art Evans was undoubtedly one of those unsung heroes of the silver screen. His career spanning five decades and over 120 appearances is a testament to his dedication and passion for acting.

Actor who gained fame for his roles in Die Hard 2, Live Free or Die Hard, and A Soldier’s Story, has passed away at the age of 82. The news of his demise was confirmed on December 21, marking the end of a career that spanned five decades and included more than 120 appearances. According to reports, Evans passed away peacefully without revealing the cause of his death.

In a statement published by Variety, Evans’ wife, Babe, said:

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Art. At the moment, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect as we cope with our loss. Details about a memorial service, which will be open to friends and family at a future date, will be shared soon. Thank you.

Born in Berkeley, California, 1941, I embarked on my extensive journey in entertainment, initially captivating audiences on stage. Transitioning to the silver screen and television in the early ’70s, I took on various smaller roles, gradually establishing myself as a regular face in Hollywood. One of my unforgettable performances occurred in 1990, where I brought Leslie Barnes to life – a memorable character who lent a helping hand to Bruce Willis’s John McClane in his mission to thwart terrorists at Christmas. This role, which became a fan favorite, opened doors for me in numerous high-profile productions throughout the subsequent years.

Before taking on his iconic role in “Die Hard 2”, Evans had already made a name for himself with several notable performances. Starting in the 1970s, he appeared in a number of films such as “The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again”, “National Lampoon’s Class Reunion”, “Ruthless People”, and “The Mighty Quinn”. In 1985, Evans was part of the cult classic “Fright Night” where he played Detective Lennox. Although his screen time was limited in many roles, each appearance served to win over more fans.

Art Evans Made a Name for Himself as a Reliable Character Actor

Throughout his versatile career, Evans’ character always seemed fit for law enforcement roles. His debut, albeit uncredited, was as a precinct officer in the 1974 film “Death Wish”. He portrayed a security guard in the 1985 drama starring James Spader titled “Turf Turf”, and later appeared as Lt Bender in “Ruthless People”, Lt Hendrix in “Mom”, and Lt Sam Baffett in the Eddie Murphy thriller “Metro”.

In his final years, Evans primarily worked in television. He appeared in three episodes of “A House Divided” in 2019, an episode of “Real Husbands of Hollywood” in 2022, and provided the voice for Charlie in “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” in 2023. Despite never holding a leading role in a major Hollywood blockbuster, Evans was a versatile actor who made an impact through supporting roles. He may not have been a household name, but his work has left a lasting impression that extends beyond the fame of a single blockbuster movie. Our condolences go out to Evans’ family during this difficult time.
