Next month, you’ll find a mix of comedies that will keep you laughing and dramas that will challenge your thoughts on Hulu. Regardless of your viewing preference, there’s sure to be something suitable for everyone.
‘Animal Control’ (Season 3)
Stream on January 3
As a movie enthusiast, I’d describe “Animal Control” as a laugh-out-loud sitcom that chronicles the daily antics of an animal control team based in Seattle. What makes this unit unique is their growing realization – much to their frustration – that it’s not animals causing chaos in their city, but humans!
In this show, you’ll encounter a lively ensemble of witty and amusing characters such as Emily Price (Vella Lovell), the spirited and cheerful director at A.C. Northwest precinct, Shred Taylor (Michael Rowland), who partners with Frank, Victoria Sands (Grace Palmer), a shrewd Animal Control officer from New Zealand, and Amit Patel (Ravi V. Patel), one of the Animal Control officers and Victoria’s partner. The animal-centric plot undeniably adds an element of wildness to the series. Starting January 3, you can stream Animal Control.
‘Going Dutch’ (Season 1)
Stream on January 3
Titled “Going Dutch“, this comedy series revolves around a unique military unit in the Netherlands. After an outburst that landed him in hot water, brash Army Colonel Patrick Quinn (Denis Leary) finds himself exiled to this base as punishment for his actions. The base lacks any significant military function, and the colonel faces challenges integrating with the younger, vibrant team members. To make matters worse, his estranged daughter, Captain Maggie Quinn (Taylor Misiak), was the interim commander of the base prior to his arrival. As he adjusts to this unwelcome location, Patrick aims to mend his relationship with his daughter while bringing order to the disorganized base. The series features comedic performances by Danny Pudi, Laci Mosley, Hal Cumpston, Dempsey Bryk, Joe Morton, and Catherine Tate. “Going Dutch” starts streaming on January 3.
‘Doc’ (Season 1)
Stream on January 8
The series Doc revolves around Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker), who serves as chief of internal and family medicine at Westside Hospital in Minneapolis. Known for her skill and determination, Amy’s life takes a sudden turn when she gets severely injured in a car accident, leading to memory loss spanning eight years due to a traumatic brain injury.
After spending almost a decade honing her skills and gaining valuable experience, Amy finds herself back at square one as an intern at the hospital due to unforeseen circumstances. This setback also brings about changes in her personal life that she’s yet to fully comprehend – her marriage has ended, and her daughter, who was once nine years old, is now a teenager. Amy’s strength will be put to the test like never before as she navigates this new reality. Catch “Doc” on January 8.
‘Shifting Gears’ (Season 1)
Stream on January 9
Title Change: “Gearing Up Again” – A Comedy about Tim Allen and Kat Dennings as Matt and Riley, a father-daughter duo who reconnect after years apart when Riley returns home with her kids. Matt, a widower and classic car workshop owner, has always had a strained relationship with his daughter, who left home at 18. As they share the same roof once more, their bond starts mending through a series of amusing encounters. “Gearing Up Again” will stream on January 9.
‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ (Season 2)
Stream on January 10
Originating from television creators Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” is a chilling supernatural horror series adapted from the widely acclaimed book series by R. L. Stine. In its inaugural season, it followed a group of five high school students who uncovered the mysterious death of a local teen and, in doing so, unraveled their parents’ long-buried secrets. The upcoming second season delves into the story of two teenage siblings who stumble upon a perilous force within their own home. This discovery sets off a series of unforeseen events, leading them to become embroiled in the enigma surrounding five teenagers who vanished back in 1994. “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” will start streaming on January 10.
‘Paradise’ (Season 1)
Stream on January 28
As a film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the Hulu original series, “Paradise,” created by Dan Fogelman. In this gripping tale, Sterling K. Brown plays Secret Service agent Xavier Collins who, as part of President Cal Bradford’s (James Marsden) detail, finds himself enmeshed in a high-stakes investigation when the president is assassinated unexpectedly. With no clear leads on the killer and Xavier being the last person to see the president alive, he becomes the prime suspect. The series also boasts an impressive cast that includes Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Aliyah Mastin, and Percy Daggs IV. “Paradise” will be available for streaming on January 28.
