Ben Schwartz Is Campaigning To Play A DC Superhero, And I’m Totally On His Side For This One

As a longtime comic book enthusiast and avid moviegoer, I am thrilled at the prospect of Ben Schwartz bringing Plastic Man to life on the big screen. Having grown up reading DC comics and appreciating Schwartz’s comedic talents in shows like “Parks and Recreation” and “Sonic The Hedgehog,” the idea of these two elements coming together feels like a match made in heaven.

The witty, irreverent humor of Plastic Man is reminiscent of Deadpool, and I believe Schwartz has the perfect blend of charm and comedic timing to bring that character to life. James Gunn’s knack for infusing his projects with humor and unique energy makes him the perfect director to helm this project, should it come to fruition.

I must admit, the thought of a Plastic Man movie is enough to make me giddy with excitement. However, I do wonder if the arrival of Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four: First Steps next year could impact DC’s decision to bring Plastic Man to the big screen. If Pedro Pascal can successfully portray Mr. Fantastic’s stretchy abilities in the Marvel movie, it could motivate DC to give Plastic Man a try as well.

In the meantime, I will eagerly await the launch of James Gunn’s Superman on July 11 and keep my fingers crossed that we’ll soon hear news about a potential Plastic Man project in the works at DC Studios. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll even see Schwartz and Pascal sharing the screen as stretchy superheroes!

And to top it all off, let me add a little joke: I can already imagine the two of them in a scene together, with Plastic Man saying something like “Hey, Mr. Fantastic! You need help reaching that high shelf? Let me just…stretch it out for you!

James Gunn and Peter Safran, heads at DC Studio, are initiating a fresh era for DC Comics on the big screen, opening up numerous possibilities for actors. Even though some crucial roles have been filled (as demonstrated by the recently released trailer for Superman), this is an excellent moment for an actor to express interest in portraying a specific character.

Since this news delights me, it’s great to find out that Ben Schwartz persists in his ambition to bring Plastic Man to life on screen.

For several years now, the star of “Sonic The Hedgehog” has been advocating for the opportunity to portray a flexible DC character. With the DC Universe now being developed, he’s holding onto this idea tightly. In a conversation with ComicBook, he mentioned that he already has a connection with James Gunn, and while he holds a deep affection for what Marvel is doing, he envisions his future as a part of the DC Universe. Schwartz expressed this sentiment.

I consider myself friends with James Gunn, and I adore him immensely! I’m really looking forward to his upcoming Superman project. My affinity for superheroes knows no bounds. While I’m a big fan of the Marvel Universe, DC’s character, Plastic Man, has always intrigued me. We’ve discussed this before, and I believe he could have a similar vibe to Deadpool in his universe, given enough attention.

If you’re well-acquainted with Plastic Man and Ben Schwartz’s humorous style, it’s challenging not to view this as a guaranteed success, and the Deadpool parallel seems fitting. Although Plastic Man isn’t as violent as Deadpool, both characters share a rebellious attitude that fans have always admired, which could lead to similar on-screen adaptations. With a touch of absurdity, Plastic Man could become an exceptional force in the DC Universe – and given James Gunn’s history of embracing absurdity in his projects, it seems plausible that he would appreciate the character as well.

As a long-time comic book enthusiast who has followed the adventures of both Plastic Man and the Fantastic Four, I can’t help but ponder the potential implications of Matt Shakman’s upcoming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” on the big screen next year. Having witnessed the less than stellar portrayals of Mr. Fantastic’s stretchy abilities in previous films, I am hopeful that Pedro Pascal’s performance in the upcoming Marvel production might set a new standard for superhero elasticity. If the Fantastic Four’s history can be rewritten with a more convincing representation of these powers, it could inspire DC to take a chance and explore this unique ability in their own universe, albeit with a distinctly different approach. Fingers crossed that the future holds some exciting developments for both teams!

We’re keeping our fingers crossed to see if the lineup of future DC films might include a Plastic Man project, but for now, fans can eagerly anticipate the cinema release of the DC Universe starting with James Gunn’s Superman, slated for July 11th.
