As a Star Wars fan who grew up idolizing the characters from a galaxy far, far away, I am deeply saddened by the news of Angus MacInnes‘ passing. Although he was just an actor to many, for me and countless others, he was Gold Leader, a hero who flew X-wings alongside Luke Skywalker in my childhood dreams.
His career spanned over four decades, but to me, it felt like he was a constant presence, appearing in various sci-fi and action films that fueled my imagination and ignited my love for storytelling. From Rollerball to Star Wars, Space: 1999 to Captain Phillips, Angus’ work touched countless lives, including mine.
What I admire most about Angus was his connection with the fans. He loved meeting us at conventions, hearing our stories, and sharing in our passion for the saga. It’s a bittersweet thought that he’ll be missed by his family, friends, and fellow actors, but also by countless fans like me.
In the end, I can’t help but think of a joke Angus might have told at a convention: “You know, they say I’m the Gold Leader in Star Wars. Well, let me tell you something – it’s not easy leading golds!” Rest in peace, Angus MacInnes. May the Force be with you always.
It is with regret that we announce the passing of Angus MacInnes, a renowned actor recognized for his roles in the 1977 film ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ and the 2016 movie ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. At the time of his death, he was 77 years old.
MacInnes passed away “tranquilly, enveloped by the love of his family,” according to a family announcement on Facebook. The specific reason for his demise was not initially disclosed.
I’ve been deeply moved by the impact he had on countless lives through his work. There was a certain pride I felt being a part of the stories he brought to life, stories that still echo in hearts across the globe. Beyond just an actor, Angus was a kind-hearted, thoughtful, and generous spirit who infused warmth and humor into every interaction. His absence will be profoundly felt not only by his loved ones, colleagues, and peers, but also by me and countless other fans worldwide.
MacInnes, who hails from Ontario, Canada, born on the 27th of October, 1947, embarked on an acting journey that spanned over several decades. His debut performance graced our screens in the year 1975, specifically in the film titled “Rollerball”.

Fast forward to 2016, under the guidance of director Gareth Edwards, I once again stepped into the cockpit for the thrilling adventure of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story“.
As a die-hard Star Wars fan myself, I can’t express enough how much I cherished the fellow enthusiasts I encountered at conventions. Their stories, shared passions for the saga, and unwavering love for this universe made every gathering truly special.
