To my delight, he shared with TopMob that indeed, their creative process involves a rich visualization of these imaginative beings!

Wow, we’ve been fortunate to have similar concepts! When brainstorming with Doug Chiang and the Lucasfilm design team, you’d present rough ideas, only to receive multiple refined versions in response, as if you’d sketched them on a napkin. Each one is impressive, leaving us awestruck. Then they’d share unused designs from other projects, suggesting potential combinations. It’s like being a child in a candy store! Everything seems cool and exciting, making it hard not to incorporate everything. The challenge lies in narrowing down the choices… We’ve developed numerous alien species and droids, trying to pack as much creativity as possible into our work.

Certain characters and robots play essential roles in the storyline. Neel, played by Robert Timothy Smith, is a key member of the primary group known as the Skeleton Crew. When they activated the spaceship for their voyage, it awakened SM-33 (voiced by Nick Frost), who often caused more problems than solutions, especially towards the end of Episode 4. At times, however, the show takes a break to explore new, exotic planets, allowing Jon Watts and his team of directors, including David Lowery, Daniel Kwan, and Daniel Scheinart, to fill these landscapes with various bizarre creatures. Among them, my favorite is the Wolfman Pirate!
