As a self-proclaimed Twihard (yes, that’s what we called ourselves back in the day), I can’t help but feel like I’ve been catapulted back to my teenage years when I see The Twilight Saga storming the charts on Hulu once again. It feels like just yesterday I was camping out for tickets to midnight premieres, devouring every piece of merchandise I could get my hands on, and spending countless hours on fan sites discussing the latest theories about Bella, Edward, and Jacob.
The news that Netflix is rebooting the series with an animated adaptation of Midnight Sun has me both excited and skeptical. On one hand, I’m thrilled to see more of my beloved vampires in a new format, but on the other hand, I can’t help but wonder if it will ever truly live up to the magic of the original films. But hey, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
One thing’s for sure, though – I’ll definitely be re-watching the entire saga on Hulu in anticipation for the animated series. And if Netflix ever decides to make a live-action remake of Breaking Dawn: Part 2 with real wolves instead of CGI ones, I might just have to build a time machine and go back to 2012 all over again.
Oh, and let’s not forget the classic joke: “Team Edward or Team Jacob? More like Team Coffee and Team Decaf!” (I know, I know, I’m still working on my humor.)
It appears that aside from Nosferatu, another vampire film captured viewers’ attention this holiday season. Remarkably, the decade-old series, The Twilight Saga, has surged in popularity on Hulu, rejuvenating the beloved movies adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novels. The saga began with Twilight in 2008 and concluded with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 in 2012, and at the time, it was a cultural sensation. Even today, one can still see daily references to Bella, Edward, and the rest of the Cullen family in various memes.
Currently, as I’m typing this, all five movies from the “Twilight Saga” are ranked among the Top 15 on Hulu. Specifically, “Twilight” is at #6, followed by “New Moon” at #8, “Eclipse” at #9, and both parts of “Breaking Dawn” holding spots at #13 and #14. Featuring Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, the initial film centered around the developing romance between a human and a vampire. The second installment introduced Taylor Lautner’s character Jacob Black, a werewolf that complicated the narrative by creating a love triangle with the three main characters. Eventually, Bella married Edward, had a half-human, half-vampire child, underwent her own transformation into a vampire with unique abilities, and oh boy, it was full of dramatic twists!
Despite its complexity, The Twilight Saga proved highly popular among readers of the books. This series garnered over $3.3 billion at the box office, marking a new era in vampire media. It moved these night creatures from gloomy castles as portrayed by Bram Stoker, into roles as business tycoons, politicians, and everyday individuals struggling with life just like ordinary people.
‘The Twilight Saga’ Is Getting a Reboot… Sort Of
Just like enduring movie franchises, Hollywood executives are constantly searching for opportunities to extend their success and maximize profits. So, it’s no surprise that The Twilight Saga isn’t finished yet, as Netflix has decided to dive into the world of vampires by reimagining the series in a somewhat new way.
Instead of recreating the entire Twilight saga as HBO does with Harry Potter, Netflix plans to adapt the novel Midnight Sun into an eight-part animated series. Unlike the original Twilight books, which were told from Bella’s perspective, this adaptation will focus on Edward’s viewpoint. As of now, there is no release date set for this project, but given the time it takes to produce animation compared to live-action, viewers may not see it until 2026 or later.
For now, why not quench your thirst for vampire love stories by exploring the complete Twilight Saga, which is currently streaming on Hulu. However, if you’ve accumulated the numerous physical copies over the years, then you might already be all set!
