Adam Sandler Has A Funny Take On Why It Would Be ‘Awful’ For Him To Do A Superhero Movie

From a movie enthusiast’s perspective, I must say that Adam Sandler initially gained fame through his stint on SNL, and his hilarious movies have certainly been a hit among fans. However, what’s truly fascinating is how this gifted actor has expanded his range, demonstrating versatility in his roles. He was persuaded to tackle more serious parts in films like “Uncut Gems” and the latest Netflix production, “Spaceman.”

Even as multifaceted as Sandler is, the man behind “50 First Dates” shares an amusing perspective on why venturing into the superhero genre could be a nightmare for him.

In the past, both Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey were considered for the role of Rocket Raccoon in “Guardians of the Galaxy”. However, it was Bradley Cooper who ended up providing the voice for this character. When asked about his potential involvement in a superhero movie during an interview with Looper, Sandler expressed some initial enthusiasm (“Oh, man, yes!”), but quickly became hesitant when considering the idea of him wearing spandex.

It’s just due to me wearing anything tight on the body [that’s] going to be awful for everybody.

It’s clear that refusing the spandex for a laugh is quite amusing, isn’t it? Not everyone yearns to slip into something as snug as a second skin, especially for crime-fighting purposes. It’s easy to see why some people might balk at the thought of donning a tightly fitted costume. Despite their sleek appearance in superhero movies, these costumes can be quite uncomfortable for the actors wearing them. For instance, Tobey Maguire found his Spider-Man suit hard to wear, and Zachary Levi from Shazam! previously shared his discomfort while wearing spandex during bathroom breaks. Therefore, Adam Sandler is indeed fortunate that he won’t have to endure any tight superhero suits in the future.

In an attempt to attract a broad range of viewers, it’s no surprise that film studios often cast comedians in superhero roles. Even Seth Rogen acknowledges that Marvel movies are influencing comedy by incorporating humor into their superhero stories. Actors like Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) lend a natural charm and excellent comedic timing to these films, which helps lighten the mood and makes the characters more appealing. Similarly, when comedians take on villainous roles like Jim Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog and Danny DeVito in Batman Returns, they keep our interest and add an element of unpredictability to their sinister characters.

In terms of a superhero film, Adam Sandler’s closest role would be that of an Israeli commando hairdresser with extraordinary abilities in “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.” Even though it’s intriguing to imagine him as a superhero, I feel he might fit better as a comical antagonist. Given his history of playing characters with quick tempers, I can envision him excelling in this role. With Sandler’s memorable performance in “Uncut Gems” still fresh in my mind, I can’t help but imagine him portraying a villain, even though the character Howard Ratner wasn’t exactly evil. However, we did see Sandler bring to life a jeweler who made morally dubious decisions as his gambling addiction spiraled out of control. As a villain, it would be captivating to witness Sandler further demonstrate his versatility by blending dark humor with danger, much like in “Anger Management.

Adam Sandler seems hesitant about starring in a superhero movie, especially one involving a tight spandex suit. However, even though he may not envision himself being part of a big-name superhero franchise from Marvel or DC, it would be intriguing to see him in a comedic take on the genre, similar to “Kick-Ass” or a film like “Hancock.” Stay tuned for upcoming superhero movies as there’s always a chance Sandler might reconsider the idea of donning spandex.
