Will We Ever Get a ‘We’re the Millers 2’?

An Uproarious Black Comedy Featuring Hollywood’s Elite

Globally, viewers were hooked on the laughter that ensued from a small-time marijuana dealer’s cunning scheme to transport drugs in the 2013 black comedy titled “We’re the Millers“. This film boasts an impressive ensemble cast headed by Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter. The story revolves around David Clark, a man who, after losing his stash in a robbery, is compelled to devise a solution to repay his drug supplier. In order to successfully pass through Mexico’s customs, David enlists the aid of his struggling stripper neighbor Rose, tough runaway Casey, and innocent-but-kind Kenny, pretending them to be his family.

During their lengthy road trip southward in a colossal recreational vehicle, the “Millers” face off against menacing cartel members, deceitful officials, venomous tarantulas, and the relentless intrusion of the seemingly virtuous Fitzgeralds, where Don (Nick Offerman), the family patriarch, turns out to be a DEA agent. As they strive to maintain their disguise and navigate through this tumultuous weekend, this unconventional and endearing pseudo-family unexpectedly develop deep connections and emotions towards each other that reshape their perspectives on existence.

‘We’re the Millers 2’ Almost Came to Fruition

The comedy film, “We’re the Millers,” turned out to be an unexpected box office sensation upon its premiere on August 7, 2013. It ruled the charts and accumulated a staggering $270 million globally during its theatrical release, far surpassing its initial budget of $37 million. Despite receiving mixed opinions from critics, audiences adored the fake family’s side-splitting antics and their exceptional camaraderie. Many praised Aniston’s bold portrayal of Rose, the feisty matriarch, as well as Poulter’s endearing performance as the bashful Kenny. “We’re the Millers” was nominated for four People’s Choice Awards, including Favorite Comedic Movie, and Poulter deservedly won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

I have a great deal of affection for Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, and Rawson Marshall Thurber, our director. If given the opportunity, I would be thrilled to collaborate with any of them again. However, it seems unlikely that another installment of ‘We’re The Millers’ is in the works.

Jennifer Aniston hinted strongly that a second installment of “We’re the Millers” might not materialize, as she discussed the possibility of a sequel during promotions for her 2023 film “Murder Mystery 2” alongside Adam Sandler. The well-known “Friends” actress shared that they almost made the sequel, but it was unfortunately not meant to be: “There were discussions about it, but it didn’t work out.

The Comedy’s Decorated Cast Finds Massive Success

Although the much-anticipated sequel to “We’re the Millers” didn’t materialize, the talented cast members still managed to achieve significant success in Hollywood. In fact, each of the main actors has thrived both on the big and small screens over the past 12 years since the release of the comedy. Jennifer Aniston, for instance, has remained a highly demanded actress, featuring in popular films like “Horrible Bosses 2”, “Cake”, “Dumplin'”, and “Murder Mystery”. She is currently co-starring with Reese Witherspoon on the Apple TV+ drama series “The Morning Show”, for which she has been nominated for a Golden Globe award.
