Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) has revealed that it has appointed three fresh directors to its board of directors. Among these new appointees is Dana White, the CEO of UFC, who has recently cultivated a relationship with Mark Zuckerberg over the past few years as their friendship blossomed when the founder started taking up recreational fighting and became more dedicated to mixed martial arts.
In addition to Dana White, Meta has appointed two new directors: Charlie Songhurst, a former executive and investor at Microsoft, and John Elkann, who is currently the CEO of Exor, a holding company managed by Italy’s Agnelli family with diverse interests such as Christian Louboutin, Stellantis NV, Ferrari, among others. Upon their appointment to Meta’s board, Zuckerberg expressed that Songhurst, Elkann, and White will bring valuable expertise and viewpoints that will aid us in addressing the vast opportunities ahead in areas like AI, wearables, and the future of interpersonal relationships. Since May, Songhurst has been serving on Meta’s four-member artificial intelligence advisory group, offering advice on potential strategic opportunities related to the company’s growth.
2022 saw Zuckerberg praise Dana White, President and CEO of UFC, in an Instagram post. He stated that under White’s leadership, UFC had transformed into one of the world’s most valuable, rapidly growing, and widely popular sports enterprises, expressing admiration for White as a businessman and brand builder. In 2023, White endeavored to arrange a cage fight between Zuckerberg and Musk; however, the bout was cancelled due to an injury sustained by Musk.
