Did you know Ananya Panday took Sridevi’s reference to nail her character in Call Me Bae? Director Collin D’Cunha reveals

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for Ananya Panday’s outstanding portrayal in “Call Me Bae” on Amazon Prime Video. This was her initial foray into the world of streaming, and she left a lasting impression. Excitingly, we’re eagerly anticipating its second season!

In a fascinating interview, the series’ director, Collin D’Cunha, shared an intriguing detail: he coined a special term for Ananya—Sridevi. This iconic actress’s distinct mannerisms, such as her eye-rolls and giggles, served as a guiding reference to help Panday perfect her character. What a tribute!

As per Forbes India’s report, Collin D’Cunha mentioned that Ananya Panday has a genuine humor in her everyday life, but acting comedy on-screen can be quite tough. He pointed out that she finds it easy to portray emotional scenes because she can convincingly cry when needed and her expressive eyes intensify the effect.

Initially, while filming, D’Cunha noticed that Ananya was speaking certain lines in an authentic and uncomplicated way, contrasting with his usual perception of her.

To bring out a livelier side in her, D’Cunha devised an original method: he employed the term “Sridevi” as a cue. He clarified that he wanted Ananya to embody the lively, mischievous spirit of Sridevi’s famous Chaalbaaz character, expressed through actions like rolling her eyes and chuckling.

Ever since I fully committed to this path, I found myself effortlessly honing my performance without a second thought, and humor flowed from me as if it were second nature. D’Cunha confided that some of my line deliveries were so amusing, he couldn’t help but chuckle while hiding behind the monitor.

At first, Ananya confessed that she felt apprehensive about attempting comedy. However, she clarified that her role demanded more than just reciting humorous dialogue – it also involved elements of physical comedy such as awkward gestures and theatrical actions.

In other words, she mentioned that when her character wasn’t talking, she frequently needed to be involved in something amusing or intriguing behind the scenes instead.

Panday is currently busy shooting for the second season of Call Me Bae.
