18 East and Goodhood Team Up for “The Improbable Builders Co-Op” Capsule

18 East and Goodhood have teamed up for a transatlantic collection called “The Improbable Builders Co-Op,” which takes inspiration from the reinvention of open spaces within urban landscapes. This collaboration is reminiscent of “Charas: The Impossible Dome Builders“, a book that documented the unconventional alliance between architect and geodesic dome pioneer R. Buckminster Fuller and six former gang members known as CHARAS, who united to construct a dome on an empty lot near New York City’s Manhattan Bridge.

As a devoted admirer, I can express how thrilled I am by this unique collaboration that breathes new life into everyday garments. Instead of merely replicating familiar utilitarian pieces like fleeces, bomber jackets, and overshirts, they’ve transformed them through artisanal production methods, all done meticulously in India.

Highlights from the collection include the Dabu printed fleece jacket and vest, which employs mud-resist dye alongside handspun and hand-woven materials. Another eye-catcher is the Khadid flight jacket, adorned with handspun, handwoven cotton canvas yarn and a hand-screened liner print. Other offerings include a full-zip shirt, balloon cargo pants, a loopback terry fleece sweatshirt, a shaggy cardigan, an overdyed five-pocket jean, and a strapback cap.

To add to the authenticity, the lookbook was photographed in the very same neighborhood where Fuller and CHARAS built the dome structure. This blend of tradition and modernity truly sets this collection apart.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to get my hands on the “Improbable Builders Co-Op” collection from 18 East x Goodhood, marking the first time this brand is making its merchandise available physically outside of the US and Japan! Usually, they prefer to keep their stock within their own channels, avoiding wholesale. But starting January 9, you’ll be able to grab this exclusive collection directly from both the 18 East and Goodhood websites, or even visit their physical stores!
