Lenovo Unveils The First SteamOS-Powered Handheld From a Third-Party

Among the gaming news revealed at CES 2025 today, one of the announcements centered around Lenovo‘s newest handheld device, the Legion Go S. Contrary to expectations for an AI-powered assistant or a virtual reality experience, this announcement has been generating buzz due to its partnership with Valve, the company behind the Steam Deck.

Lenovo has become the initial authorized company apart from Valve to incorporate SteamOS into one of their products, specifically the Lenovo Legion Go S device. This means that the operating system developed by Valve, known as SteamOS, will offer a smooth gaming experience for users of this product, complete with the robust power and adaptability synonymous with PC gaming.

The product offers several notable features: it supports cloud saves, making it easy to switch between gaming on your PC and playing on the handheld console seamlessly. Additionally, remote play is included, enabling you to stream games directly from the device to your PC. Furthermore, users will have access to Steam’s vast library of thousands of games.

The announcement signifies the initial move by Valve in their effort to broaden SteamOS beyond just the Steam Deck, extending it to devices from Lenovo and other manufacturers as well. Yet, it’s important to note that Lenovo will not be abandoning its Microsoft Windows operating system. Instead, they plan to provide both systems concurrently for users to choose from.

From my gaming perspective, at the moment, there’s no word yet from Lenovo about the specific launch date of the Legion Go S, running on SteamOS. Keep your eyes peeled for updates regarding this exciting product and other groundbreaking tech unveilings at CES 2025!
