Ladies and gentlemen: he was just kidding.
Vin Diesel has explained his unusual gesture during the Golden Globe awards presentation on Sunday night. The star of the Fast & Furious franchise drew attention when, while presenting the award for cinematic and financial success, he paused to glance towards Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was seated near the front of the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton.
Greetings, Dwayne,” Diesel spoke mysteriously as he fixed his gaze on his former co-star from the Fast & Furious series. Johnson returned the stare, flashing a slightly uncomfortable smile at the unexpected encounter. This moment sparked a wave of conjecture across the web, suggesting that the longstanding feud between these action stars had once again flared up.
Following numerous rumors, Diesel put an end to the speculation by sharing a throwback photo from the 2015 Rio de Janeiro premiere of Fast 5 featuring himself and Johnson. It was Johnson’s debut in the billion-dollar franchise that Diesel had helped kickstart in 2001. The iconic picture, taken a decade ago, was accompanied by Diesel’s message, “All love… Always…

Initially, it might not have been purely love. A disagreement between the actors started when Johnson joined the Fast & Furious films for the fifth installment as Luke Hobbs in 2011’s Fast Five and continued to reprise his role over three more sequels. By 2016, an escalation of egos resulted in significant tension between him and Diesel, which eventually spilled (moved sideways, on two wheels) off the movie sets and onto social media platforms. The feud between them, which has lasted for years, started in earnest in 2016 with a now-deleted Instagram post from Johnson, where he praised the women of the franchise but called some of his male co-stars “cowards.
Diesel was pinpointed as said “candy ass,” Johnson confirmed later to Rolling Stone.
Johnson explained to the publication that there’s a significant gap in our viewpoints regarding movie production methods and teamwork.
In a timeless rivalry reminiscent of old times, they exchanged barbs and ridiculed one another’s public remarks regarding each other, which appeared to boost ticket sales for the Fast movie screenings. The Fast franchise is Universal’s most successful, with its total earnings placing it as the 8th highest-grossing film series ever, currently exceeding $7 billion in box office revenue.
After Johnson departed from the Fast & Furious “crew” to appear in Hobbes and Shaw, where his law enforcement role partnered with Jason Statham’s series antagonist, Diesel had an opportunity to expand within the franchise he created. In subsequent sequels, the focus shifted towards his character, Dominic “Dom” Toretto, and introduced characters related to his family into the narrative.
