Warning: SPOILERS for Nosferatu are ahead!
1) One of the most highly regarded horror films in recent times, Nosferatu, has earned my admiration too, echoing TopMob’s own review. The movie’s quality left me spellbound, given that I am already acquainted with the character thanks to SpongeBob Squarepants. However, I have some concerns that this film might be considered “outdated,” as the younger crowd may put it, since I believe it could make for an excellent target when Scary Movie 6 decides to poke fun at horror classics.
The Wayans Brothers are writing the upcoming film, and there’s a strong feeling that the series is set for a major resurgence, as the original architects return to lead the charge. It’s clear they’ll be seeking contemporary films to satirize, and I can hardly imagine a more fitting choice than “Nosferatu” considering its relevance to three key areas that the Wayans enjoy mocking.
Count Orlok’s Voice is Ripe For Parody
The first time Bill Skarsgård spoke during the contract scene in Nosferatu, his voice reminded me of scenes from Scary Movie. However, I want to clarify that this doesn’t mean he performed poorly; quite the contrary, he excelled in his role. His voice was eerily dark and chilling for a film of this genre, making an already terrifying character even more unsettling.
It was acknowledged by Nicholas Hoult, who played Nosferatu, that he felt a sense of being unnerved on set by the vampire character portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. He described Skarsgård as “very intimidating.
Consider this scenario: Instead of the eerie pauses filled with his labored breathing, perhaps it was the sound of him passing gas amidst his centuries-old existence as he engaged in conversation. After all, many people younger than Count Orlok don’t hesitate to let one rip during a chat. It’s quite intriguing to ponder if an immortal like him wouldn’t do the same.
Absolutely, such an incident wouldn’t occur in the film ‘Nosferatu’. Although the vampire is intended to be as repulsive as he is terrifying, incorporating elements like flatulence is way beyond the boundaries of horror. This is where ‘Scary Movie’ steps in; they can transform a scene from ‘The Exorcist’ into something bizarre, like one involving goat eyes and an unusual scene related to penetration.
Count Orlok’s voice could supply a wealth of absurd statements for a book, and if Scary Movie 6 decides to animate this character, there’s plenty of room for humor. In fact, I dare say the jokes derived from his thick accent and deep voice might even catapult this upcoming parody into the top tier of Wayans Brothers films. Yet, it remains to be seen whether these gags will make it the best; the first two movies set a high standard that’s hard to beat.
The Movie’s Overtly Sexual Themes Paralell With Where The Wayans Thrive With Comedy
Revisit the initial two “Scary Movies” on Paramount+ and you’ll notice that a significant portion of the humor revolves around sexual jokes. Although some of the more questionable jokes might be considered inappropriate for 2024, Brenda’s explicit suggestions to Ray about their future intimate encounters never fail to make me chuckle.
Let’s examine the film “Nosferatu“, a more sexually intense movie than one might expect. While it may be shocking, the erotic elements, primarily the disturbing and nightmare-inducing scenes of Count Orlok feeding on his victims, are presented in an unsettlingly provocative way. It’s difficult to watch due to its horror and terror, which, I assume, was precisely Robert Eggers’ intention when he made those scenes a “grisly spectacle.
The Wayans Brothers stand out for their ability to blend humor with the grotesque. Take, for instance, the infamous scene from Scary Movie 2 where Cindy and Buddy end up in a freezer; if you’re unfamiliar, let’s just say there’s an abundance of fluid involved, and I’ll leave it at that.
It’s unlikely that much creativity is required to envision alternate, more grotesque or amusing versions of the love scenes in Nosferatu. Just brainstorming a few possibilities myself, I can only wonder what ideas the filmmakers must be conjuring up as they work on this project. Frankly, it’s hard to believe that Scary Movie 6 could ever incorporate elements from Nosferatu, given its absence from their previous films.
Willem Dafoe’s Performance Is Fantastic, But Also Great For Moving Along A Plot
In my opinion, Willem Dafoe has never given a performance that I didn’t admire, but his portrayal in the film “Nosferatu” is truly captivating. He masterfully plays an unconventional doctor with a hint of instability, and it’s even more impressive considering that his hypotheses about the village’s affliction prove accurate throughout the movie. Critics have hailed this film as “brilliantly horrific,” and I must agree, feeling somewhat disappointed that there might be no sequel to this horror masterpiece.
If Scary Movie 6 requires Chris Elliott’s character Hanson to strengthen its plot, it seems there’s no more fitting horror figure for the film to satirize than Willem Dafoe’s professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz. The name itself practically invites parody and offers numerous possibilities for comedic distortion.
I haven’t specifically thought of anyone, but Charlie Sheen seems like he could pull off a humorous take on Von Franz. He should be able to deliver a performance that balances seriousness and chaos. While Nicolas Cage might not fit for Scary Movie 6, Sheen seems like a suitable alternative.
From what I’ve heard, it’s unclear if “Scary Movie 6” will poke fun at “Nosferatu,” but given the Wayans’ knack for spotting comedic opportunities, I can hardly imagine them overlooking such potential as they gear up for their comeback in the franchise. Needless to say, I’ll definitely be there in a cinema seat if they decide to go that route.
