Manoj Bajpayee recently recounted an experience related to his wife, Neha Bajpai (Shabana), from her initial film Kareeb (1998) directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He disclosed that during a scene, the director had bitten Shabana’s hand due to her lifting the incorrect hand. He jokingly stated that such actions would not be acceptable if it were him in the situation.
During an interview with Mid-Day, Manoj Bajpayee shared a humorous story about his wife, Neha (Shabana), and filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra while they were working on Kareeb. He explained that since Neha doesn’t have formal training in films, she would often raise the incorrect hand during a song scene.
In the given scene, she was meant to lift her left hand, but instead, she lifted her right. To ensure she lifts the correct hand, Vidhu would bite her (as a reminder). No one else can perform this task with me. (This version maintains the original meaning while making it easier for readers to understand.)
Initially, Manoj mentioned that his wife Shabana, who was new to the field at that time, wasn’t entirely sure if Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s unusual conduct was standard. It’s possible that she thought such quirky behavior was characteristic of creative minds in the movie industry.
Following her part in the 2009 movie “Acid Factory,” actress Shabana Bajpai (also known as Neha Bajpai) took a break from acting. By that time, she was married to Manoj Bajpayee. Lately, he disclosed the cause of her long hiatus from films, stating that Shabana didn’t choose to leave acting but stopped getting job offers because of film industry politics. As an outsider without a guiding figure, she encountered numerous difficulties in maintaining her career.
Previously, during an interview with Filmfare, Bobby Deol recounted an event that had happened before. He explained that for one scene, she was required to walk down a mountain and extend her left hand to Bobby, but she kept getting mixed up. Despite multiple attempts, the director first suggested she bite her right hand as a cue. However, when she still struggled, Vidhu (the filmmaker) became frustrated and bit her hand himself, leaving Bobby taken aback by this unexpected event.
