Despite no longer being available on Netflix U.S., Liam Neeson’s 2014 action thriller “Non-specified Title” remains popular worldwide, consistently appearing in the global Top 10 list. The aerial suspense film is one of several movies by Neeson that are currently topping the streaming charts. Fans continue to watch his older films relentlessly, even as Neeson moves closer to retiring from demanding roles, demonstrating an enduring affection for the actor’s work.
In the movie “Non-Stop,” Liam Neeson portrays U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks, a man grappling with inner struggles while possessing exceptional abilities. During a flight from New York to London, he becomes the subject of an ominous threat – someone will kill a passenger every 20 minutes unless $150 million is transferred to a terrorist’s bank account. With time running short, Marks must navigate a nerve-wracking, confined game of cat and mouse to unmask the culprit before it’s too late.
The film “Non-Stop” was an enormous box office hit for Neeson. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who is also working on the Netflix action movie “Carry-On” in 2024, the movie grossed more than $222 million from a budget of $50 million and received moderately positive reviews, with an average rating of around 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film boasted a talented supporting cast including Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Lupita Nyong’o. Even a decade after its initial release, the movie’s renewed popularity demonstrates how streaming has transformed the industry and how even older movies can still become hits when they would have previously faded into obscurity.
Action Movies Are Dominating Streaming Platforms
Action films have consistently been audience favorites, with even the less-acclaimed films by Jean-Claude Van Damme or stellar performances from Jason Statham often finding a spot among the most-watched on various streaming services. These action titles regularly outshine newer and often more critically acclaimed movies in terms of viewership.
Liam Neeson’s career as an action star truly took off with his part in “Taken,” and for the past two decades, he has become an unexpected action hero, bringing in substantial box office earnings. However, critics have frequently been less enthusiastic about his films, often criticizing their repetitive nature. Yet, Neeson’s movies have consistently managed to satisfy most of his fans, with recent releases like “Non-Stop” on Netflix, “Honest Thief” on Freevee, and “In the Land of Saints and Sinners” on Prime Video, all performing well. Intriguingly, even his 2022 film “Blacklight,” which was a box office flop, has found a place on Netflix’s chart just a month after its release.
It’s not surprising for those who have turned the action genre into a global streaming success that new titles keep appearing on different platforms. This means that what was once familiar becomes something fresh for viewers worldwide. You can now add “Non-Stop” to your list, but unfortunately, this is only available outside of the U.S. (my apologies, you missed the previous opportunity).
