More than 37,000 locals, among them many famous personalities and influential figures, are currently under evacuation notices due to a series of fires sweeping through the Los Angeles region this week. These fires have already claimed at least five lives, with the flames fueled by gusty winds that have peaked close to 100 mph. The strong winds pose challenges for firefighters, as the fires have shown no signs of being contained; instead, they continue to spread rapidly across over 3,000 acres of Los Angeles County and are estimated to have destroyed around 3,000 buildings so far, according to the county fire department. Their statement on Wednesday suggests that the situation may yet worsen.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California issued an emergency order last night, advising Southern California residents to remain cautious, take all essential safety measures, and follow local emergency instructions. As the largest of four fires rampaged through the Pacific Palisades district, a hilly coastal area known for its numerous celebrity homes, stars like Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, and James Woods were among those compelled to evacuate. Other famous residents with properties in the path of the Palisades Fire include Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg.

As a resident deeply concerned about the recent wildfires, I’ve been closely following the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire that erupted in our county this week. On Tuesday morning, around 10:30 a.m., the Palisades Fire sparked near Piedra Morada Drive, causing traffic congestion for those trying to escape as the hills turned an ominous orange. By afternoon, the fire had leaped across Palisades Drive and was burning in both directions, according to CAL FIRE’s 3-D map of the Palisades Fire.
At a press conference on Wednesday, L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone reported that by that time, the Palisades Fire had consumed approximately 5,000 acres of land and 2,000 structures. Thankfully, there have been no reported fatalities, but a significant number of injuries have occurred among those who ignored warnings and refused to evacuate. Among the injured are first responders working tirelessly to control the fire and rescue those trapped in its path as it rapidly engulfed the area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with winds forecasted to reach up to 60 mph in the region through Thursday.
The Eaton Fire, our county’s second massive blaze this week, destroyed over 2,000 acres on its first day and resulted in two reported civilian fatalities, as well as several injuries. As of Wednesday morning, more than 1,000 structures had been leveled by the fire. By later that day, officials announced that the Eaton Fire had grown to 10,000 acres. The cause of the Eaton Fire remains under investigation, and evacuation orders have been issued for 32,500 residents with an estimated 13,186 local structures at risk. An additional 38,000 residents are currently under evacuation warnings.
In Chief Marrone’s words, “residents of L.A. County are in danger during this widespread disaster.” Firefighters will continue to battle the flames until full containment is achieved.
The Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, Robert Luna, emphasized the importance of heeding evacuation orders. He made it clear to residents that their safety is at stake and that they must follow the instructions given by the authorities.
As a gamer, I always have my survival kit ready whenever I’m entering a challenging game level. Just like in real life, it’s crucial to be prepared for unexpected situations. If you find yourself in a potentially dangerous area, ensure you’ve got your must-haves: vital documents, medications, and chargers for your phone – essentially, all the items needed to sustain you for at least a week.
However, if authorities instruct you to evacuate and give a clear order, remember that nothing is worth risking your life. Always listen to the guidance of the police and fire officials, and be ready to leave when necessary. Stay safe out there, fellow gamers!
Luna mentioned that the fires resulted in about a tenth of schools in Los Angeles County having to close.
On Wednesday, Kristin Crowley, a fire official from Los Angeles, mentioned that the planes had been grounded during the night and they still hadn’t taken off by the time of the press conference in the morning.
“We are absolutely not out of danger yet,” she said.
The Hurst Fire, ignited on Tuesday in the Sylmar region within the San Fernando Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, has now ravaged over 500 acres and forced more than 3,000 locals to flee their homes, according to authorities who spoke early Wednesday. The blaze is swiftly advancing under strong winds, posing significant hazards for neighboring communities, as stated by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
In a difficult situation for firefighters, the mix of dry materials, powerful winds, and low moisture in the air is fueling intense fire activity.” – CAL FIRE
On Wednesday morning at 6:15 a.m., a relatively small blaze named Woodley Fire ignited on North Woodley Avenue, located west of the 405 Freeway and north of the 101 Freeway within the Sepulveda Basin. At first, it was estimated to be 75 acres in size, but CAL FIRE later corrected this to 30 acres. The firefighters are making every effort to suppress the fire and safeguard buildings in the affected region.
On Wednesday, President Joe Biden described the fires as “remarkable” during a meeting in Santa Monica, which he visited on Monday to designate two monuments. At the same time, President-elect Donald Trump pointed fingers at Governor Gavin Newsom (nicknamed “Newscum”) for the fires, since he argued that the governor had not signed a certain bill, as he expressed on his Truth Social account, his often liberal adversary.
Governor Gavin Newsom declined to approve a water restoration declaration which could have delivered millions of gallons of water daily to various regions of California, including areas currently experiencing near-apocalyptic wildfires. He prioritized the protection of a small fish species called smelt over people’s wellbeing by reducing their water supply (which proved ineffective), but showed little concern for Californians. Now, the consequences are severe. I will insist that this inefficient governor permit clean, fresh water to flow into California. The blame lies with him. Furthermore, there is no water for fire hydrants or firefighting aircraft, making the situation even more catastrophic.
Newsom’s group swiftly set the record straight, stating that Trump’s remarks concerning the declaration were false.
On X.com, Newson’s office stated that there is no authentic document known as the Water Restoration Declaration – it’s entirely fictitious. The Governor prioritizes people’s safety over political games and ensures firefighters are well-equipped with necessary resources.
