‘Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood & Honey 2’ Director “Threw Up” During Filming

Realistic effects can significantly enhance the horror genre when skillfully executed, as demonstrated by movies like “Terrifier 3” and “Alien: Romulus” in 2024. There’s a certain intensity to practical effects that computer-generated imagery can’t replicate, making the gruesome scenes feel more authentic. In fact, these real-life depictions can be so convincing that they can leave filmmakers and actors feeling queasy, as was the case in Damien Leone’s work, and another 2024 standout: “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2“.

In a chat with MovieWeb, they spoke to Scott Chambers (as shown) about his directorial venture in the Poohniverse with “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”. During their conversation, the topic of “Blood and Honey 2” emerged, and it was then that he shared an intriguing detail – creator Rhys Frake-Waterfield became so repulsed by a specific scene in the sequel that it caused him to vomit.

The rampage at the rave was incredibly severe, reaching a level where Rhys ended up vomiting on the scene. I’m not kidding you. It was extremely challenging.

In the remembered sequence, Pooh (portrayed by Ryan Oliva) and Tigger (Lewis Santer) are seen causing chaos at a nightclub in Ashdown following their home’s destruction in the Hundred Acre Wood. Motivated by vengeance, they violently attack partygoers, resulting in decapitations, disembowelments, and mutilations. The film was made on a tight budget of $500,000 and lacked resources for CGI, forcing director Waterfield to rely on real gore to create the gruesome scene. This decision led to a memorable sequence that would impress Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton, who incidentally vomited on the set of “Terrifier 3”.

There’s More Practical Gore to Come in the ‘Pooniverse’

In the Pooniverse series, coming soon is “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare,” where Chambers takes on directing duties. Unlike its predecessors, this film leans towards realism and packs an emotional wallop as it tackles themes such as drug addiction, gender identity, and abandonment. However, don’t worry, the excellent practical gore is still present, and when necessary, there’s plenty of blood to be seen.

After this, enthusiasts can anticipate the release of “Pinocchio: Unstrung“, a film that Chambers hinted will “shatter” everyone’s cherished childhood memories. Featuring horror veterans Robert Englund and Richard Brake, the story follows the title character, Pinocchio, on a violent rampage to eradicate all the “evil” elements in the world. This R-rated adaptation is rumored to be filled with graphic gore, as Pinocchio is depicted wearing human skin to give him the sensation of being a young boy.

Under the lineup of upcoming movies in the Twisted Childhood Universe, you’ll find “Bambi: The Reckoning”. This universe will eventually lead up to the grand crossover event, “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble“. In this epic showdown, beloved characters will return and we’ll be introduced to new faces such as Rabbit, Sleeping Beauty, the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and Mary Poppins. These additions aim to shape the future direction of the franchise.

While we anticipate those events, don’t forget to catch “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare” on its limited three-day run starting January 13th. This movie is brought to you by Jagged Edge Productions and Iconic Events, with ITN Studios handling distribution.
