It’s common knowledge that Robert Downey Jr. has earned massive amounts of money from box office successes. Known as the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he played the lead in the franchise’s inaugural film, Iron Man, in 2008. Since then, Downey Jr. has been featured in numerous MCU productions, such as two Iron Man sequels, Captain America: Civil War, and every Avengers movie – including Avengers: Endgame, one of the highest-grossing films ever made. However, another actor has recently surpassed Downey Jr.’s box office earnings… Alan Tudyk.
Alan Tudyk has been recognized as the fifth highest-earning actor of all time, boasting a remarkable box office revenue of approximately $16.29 billion. This figure surpasses the economic output of many small nations! The success of “Moana 2,” where Alan reprises his role as Hei Hei the Rooster, has contributed significantly to this impressive total. Notably, Robert Downey Jr., with his Marvel Cinematic Universe roles, is ahead by a mere $20 million; a figure that, in the world of Hollywood, is referred to as “just” $20 million.
Alan Tudyk is primarily recognized for his exceptional voice acting roles, even surpassing Robert Downey Jr.’s accomplishments in some aspects. While he’s well-known for his on-screen performances in series like Firefly, A Knight’s Tale, and The Rookie, these projects don’t receive the same level of financial recognition as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, Tudyk has made a significant impact through voice acting. He has contributed to renowned franchises such as Star Wars in Rogue One, Moana, Frozen, Aladdin (2019), Ralph Breaks the Internet, and many more. In addition, he is deeply involved in the superhero genre, particularly the DC Universe, where he voices numerous characters across shows like Harley Quinn, Young Justice, Doom Patrol, and the latest release, Creature Commandos.
Alan Tudyk Stars in 2025’s ‘Superman’
Should the $16.29 billion not have been sufficient, it’s worth mentioning that Alan Tudyk is slated to appear in one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2025. Known for his voice work as Clayface, among other characters, in the animated DCU series “Creature Commandos”, Tudyk recently disclosed during a press tour that he will reprise this role in James Gunn’s live-action “Superman”. Starring David Corenswet as Superman, it has been previously announced by Gunn that many characters in the new DCU will transition between live-action and animation, as well as between TV and film. Alan Tudyk’s Clayface is expected to be among the first to make this leap.
On July 11, 2025, the much-anticipated movie featuring Superman is set to hit theaters. Joining the cast are stars like Alan Tudyk, Alexander Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Skyler Gisondo, Sean Gunn, Wendell Pierce, and a host of others. Notably, this will be the first live-action film in the newly created DC Universe. Later in 2026, Milly Alcock is slated to reappear on the big screen for the DCU’s second live-action film titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
