The Penguin’s Cristin Milioti Discusses Her Hopes For Sofia’s Future, And I’m Really Hoping Season 2 Happens

Colin Farrell was praised extensively for his portrayal of Oz Cobb (also known as The Penguin), even winning a Golden Globe recently. Without a doubt, Cristin Milioti gave a standout performance as Sofia Falcone in the HBO series, which can be streamed with a Max subscription. Originally planned as a single-season spin-off from the broader Batman Crime Saga, there’s buzz about a potential second season of The Penguin. After learning about Milioti’s aspirations for Sofia’s future, I truly hope this sequel becomes reality.

Actress Milioti, nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Sofia, spoke with Indiewire about her time on “The Penguin”. Towards the end of their chat, she was inquired what aspects of Sofia’s character she would like to delve deeper into if given another opportunity to portray her. The actress responded:

As a cinema enthusiast, I find myself pondering the myriad paths her journey could take. Above all, I yearn to see her escape from Arkham Asylum – it’s essential for me. I can’t bear the thought of her being trapped there. So, I eagerly anticipate witnessing her break free, and then mete out retribution. Perhaps in her newfound freedom, she’d become even more unpredictable due to her past focus on him and his power-hungry schemes. Her transformation into a true loose cannon is something I’m excited to delve deeper into as the story unfolds.

In the finale of Season 1 of The Penguin, titled “A Great or Little Thing”, Sofia Falcone found herself confined once more in Arkham Asylum. Initially, it seemed as though Oz Cobb was going to take her life due to all the misery she had caused him, such as kidnapping his mother. However, instead of executing her, he opted to let the police arrest her. A glimmer of hope emerged for Sofia when she received a letter from Selina Kyle, who claimed to be her sister. Unfortunately, for Sofia, played by Milioti, this means her return to the place she dreads most – her own personal inferno.

In the show “The Penguin,” Oz might have been the main character, but he was undeniably despicable. On the other hand, Sofia, though not without flaws, had valid reasons to be upset with her former driver. If there were a second season of “The Penguin,” I’d be eager to see Sofia confront Oz again. As Milioti suggested, in this hypothetical sequel, Sofia might become even more troubled due to the traumas she experienced in the first season and any additional hardships she encounters in Arkham.

Milioti expressed that she wants Sofia Falcone to stay in Arkham, but at the same time, she shared with TopMob last October that some of her most chilling experiences while filming The Penguin were when they shot scenes at the mental institution. When asked by Indiewire if Milioti, as an actress, would like more Arkham scenes, she acknowledged that they are enjoyable and suggested it could be interesting for Sofia to remain in Arkham for a while. This way, both Sofia’s pursuit of revenge and her antics within Arkham during her second stay can be explored, creating a balance that I hope will be included in the series.

At TopMob, we’ll keep you updated on whether Season 2 of “The Penguin” has been officially commissioned. Luckily, there are numerous other exciting DC TV series on the horizon, along with the scheduled release date of “The Batman: Part II” on October 1, 2027.
