In 2021, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao went through a divorce, but their bond remains strong, and they have continued to work together creatively. Kiran disclosed that their marriage was mostly harmonious, with only minor disputes which were swiftly settled. She confessed, “We recognized there was too much to salvage in our relationship,” and she expressed that they made an effort to ensure their son Azad didn’t experience any emotional fallout from the situation.
During a chat with Filmfare, Kiran Rao shared thoughts about her split from Aamir Khan, likening it to a gradual, thoughtful journey requiring patience and mutual comprehension.
Rao shared that their marriage, built over many years with great care, also included a considered decision to part ways. He compared their occasional differences to the small arguments you might have with your parents, suggesting that these were usually resolved swiftly.
Rao made it clear that their split wasn’t sudden but gradual, similar to untying a rope softly, in order to provide closure and preserve the emotional well-being of their family, especially their son Azad. She spoke about the efforts they put into creating a robust support system for Azad, aiming to protect him from feeling the emotional repercussions of their divorce.
Kiran Rao, the head of Laapataa Ladies, openly called Shah Rukh Khan her confidant, mentor, and constant pillar of support. She admitted that he’s often been a wellspring of strength, yet there are instances when his behavior can be incredibly frustrating.
In contemplating our connection, I emphasized the significance of dwelling on the beneficial elements. Essentially, it’s a matter of selection: do you wish to cling to the negative energy or to the aspects that have thrived for years? To put it simply, this is the choice we made when we chose to maintain the positive aspects and release what no longer served us by parting ways amicably.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share this heartwarming tidbit: Kiran, much like me, cherishes Aamir not just as a beloved colleague, but as a family member. She uses the term “happily divorced” to describe their unique bond, maintaining that Aamir’s mother, Zeenat Hussain, will always be her mother-in-law in spirit. Moreover, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan, Aamir’s children, continue to be cherished friends who hold a special place in her heart.
