‘Severance’ Season 2 Release Schedule

Warning: Spoilers for Severance Season 1.

Without a doubt, the critically acclaimed series “Severance” is coming back to Apple TV+ after a long break of three years. Excitement is running high as we approach its release, with Rotten Tomatoes already giving it near-perfect ratings, which isn’t unexpected given its popularity. Praised by both viewers and critics, this science fiction psychological thriller stands out among the current streaming options. The story unfolds around a team of employees working for a significant biotech company called Lumon Industries. Yet, what they do each day at work remains a mystery to everyone. Thanks to a process known as “severance,” when Mark (Adam Scott) and his colleagues step into the Lumon building’s elevator, an implant in their mind activates, allowing their work personas to take over.

In the peculiar setting of a company resembling a cult, the characters are divided into two groups: “Innies” and “Outies”. The Innies are oblivious to their Outies and their lives beyond work, living separate existences within one mind, never interacting. Each experiences unique personalities, aspirations, and objectives. After Petey, a friend and superior of Mark’s (Adam Scott), suddenly vanishes at the end of season 1 of Severance, tensions at Lumon escalate. When Helly, a defiant new hire, arrives, the Innies start to challenge the status quo. As the series resumes for its second season, viewers may finally uncover the truth behind that intriguing cliffhanger.

What Happened At the End of ‘Severance’ Season 1?

As the first season of “Severance” comes to a close, the employees inside Lumon Industries (the Innies) start losing faith in their jobs and long for a way out. Constantly engrossed in work, they become determined to uncover the truth about what’s truly happening at Lumon and find a means of escape. After discovering the overtime contingency, they learn how to awaken themselves on the outside, and in doing so, they gain some insight into their true selves – but only momentarily, as Seth (Tramell Tillman) intervenes. Helly uncovers that her Outie is actually Helena Eagan, the granddaughter of Lumon Industries’ founder. In the fleeting time she’s conscious, Helly sabotages Helena’s speech at a Lumon Gala by speaking against the severance chip and revealing herself as an Innie while discussing the severe repercussions of the procedure.

In a surprising twist, viewers were taken aback by the revelation about Helly’s identity, but it was Mark’s discovery that really caused a stir. Upon waking up at his sister Devon’s house, Mark reveals his true identity to her and shares the shocking deeds of Lumon. Devon trusts him and urges him to expose Lumon to the media. She also informs him about his wife Gemma’s death, although this news doesn’t resonate with Mark’s Innie. However, soon after Devon leaves the room, Mark sees a picture of him and Gemma, who is revealed to be Ms. Casey, another Lumon employee with an Innie. Mark rushes to tell Devon, but before he can shout, “she’s alive,” the overtime contingency is deactivated and his Outie regains control, oblivious to the events that just unfolded. This suspenseful ending has left audiences eagerly anticipating what happens next, especially after the long three-year wait.
