‘Black Panther’ Recast Rumor Reveals ‘Star Wars’ Actor & More Rejected T’Challa Role

Gossip about who might replace Chadwick Boseman’s character, Black Panther, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), persists, with a recent report suggesting which actors have declined the opportunity to play the superhero since his unfortunate demise. Jeff Sneider, an industry insider, has hinted that Marvel Studios is contemplating recasting the role, potentially through the use of the multiverse, but it appears that many actors are unwilling to step into the role left vacant by Boseman.

According to YouTuber She_DreadzMe, industry insiders claim that actors Damson Idris (known for Star Wars, The Woman King, Black Mirror, Farming, and F1) and David Oyelowo (Selma, Silo, and Golden Globe nominee) have both been offered and declined the opportunity to portray T’Challa.

In conjunction with this speculation, Comicbookmovie.com has also corroborated that they too have heard whispers about John Boyega’s potential involvement. Currently, this remains a rumor, but the possibility of either Boyega or Damson Idris, who has recently been favored for the role of Green Lantern’s John Stewart in the DCU, stepping into the Black Panther suit is plausible. If the recasting indeed occurs, that’s the question. What might be more unexpected is the involvement of David Oyelowo at 48 years old, as he would portray a much older T’Challa compared to the other two. However, if plans for aging up the character for his return are under consideration, then this could be an intriguing twist.

Is the MCU Really Going To Recast T’Challa After Chadwick Boseman’s Passing?

Reflecting on the speculation, it’s not hard to grasp why some actors might hesitate to take on the role of T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This part is more than just a role; it binds an actor to a significant franchise. Moreover, stepping into the shoes left by Chadwick Boseman, who was widely acclaimed for his portrayal, could carry a sense of disrespect if not handled delicately. Add to that the potential backlash from being recast, and it’s clear that bringing T’Challa back for the upcoming Avengers movies and Black Panther 3, should the plan be in motion, would be no small feat. Keep in mind, though, that the MCU already has a new Black Panther in Letitia Wright’s Shuri.

Although specifics about Black Panther 3 are yet to be revealed, it’s confirmed that the upcoming sequel will prominently include Oscar-winning and esteemed actor Denzel Washington. In fact, news about a third Black Panther film surfaced back in November last year when Denzel Washington, who starred in Gladiator 2, hinted at its development while also suggesting potential retirement.

I’m not sure if I’ll make many more films in the future. It’s likely that I won’t. Instead, I want to explore new experiences. At 22, I played Othello, and now I’m set to play him again at 70. Following that, I’ll portray Hannibal. We’ve been discussing a film project with Steve McQueen next. After that, Ryan Coogler has written a role for me in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. Subsequently, I plan to reprise Othello once more. Then, I intend to take on King Lear. After all of this, I plan to retire.
