Initially, Paul Bettany portrayed J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark’s AI, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, since 2015, he’s taken on the role of Vision, a character who met his end in Avengers: Infinity War. Interestingly, the Disney+ series WandaVision showcased Wanda Maximoff resurrecting her deceased lover within Westview’s Hex. Moreover, the original Vision’s body was reawakened as White Vision in this series. This revamped android will spearhead his own upcoming Marvel TV show, and there’s been news that a significant character from Iron Man has joined the roster of characters, although I must admit, I find this decision somewhat perplexing.
Actor Faran Tahir, who initially portrayed Raza in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first film, has been selected to reprise his character in what’s colloquially referred to as “Vision Quest“. You might recall Tahir from various films and television shows like “Star Trek” (2009), “Elysium”, “Warehouse 13”, “Once Upon a Time”, “12 Monkeys”, and “The Old Man”. In addition, James Spader will reprise his role as Ultron in the series. Todd Stashwick from “Star Trek: Picard” has been cast in an unspecified part, and it’s also speculated that both James D’Arcy and Kerry Condon are set to reappear as Edwin Jarvis and F.R.I.D.A.Y respectively.
If you’re looking for a quick recap on the character ‘Iron Man’ without having to watch the movie via your Disney+ subscription, here it goes: The villain named Raza was the head of the Ten Rings terror group in Afghanistan. He and his men abducted Tony Stark, intending to coerce him into constructing a Jericho missile. However, Stark managed to free himself by wearing the Mark I Iron Man armor. It was unveiled that Raza had collaborated with Obadiah Stane, but after Jeff Bridges’ character retrieved the pieces of the Mark I to create his Iron Monger suit, he ordered the execution of Raza and his men for their failure to eliminate Tony.
Let me clarify my confusion: I’m puzzled about how Raza continues to appear in “Vision Quest”, given that Terry Matalas is the showrunner. Now, I’ve been immersed in superhero narratives for quite some time, and I understand that death isn’t usually permanent in such stories, whether from Marvel or DC. However, the MCU rarely adheres to this rule, and when an actor reprises a deceased character, it’s typically through a flashback, a prequel, or as a variant of the original character. So, I’m curious about the circumstances surrounding Raza’s continued presence in this context.
But it’s Raza we’re discussing, and I can hardly imagine Obadiah Stane making a mistake in killing him. Moreover, I find it implausible that there are any supernatural or mystical powers at play that brought him back to life. So, what’s the deal here? I think it’s likely that Raza won’t physically return, but instead manifest within Vision’s consciousness. If he can somehow tap into Tony Stark’s memories, then it would explain why the terrorist appears before Vision, as he, Ultron, Edwin Jarvis, and F.R.I.D.A.Y. were all integral aspects of Tony’s life, both positive and negative.
2026 is when we’ll discover if my theory holds water, as Vision Quest makes its debut. For now, MCU enthusiasts can get excited about upcoming shows such as Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Wonder Man, all set to premiere in 2025.
