Dan Slott, Longtime Spider-Man Writer, Leaps to DC with ‘Superman Unlimited’

For approximately 15 years, Dan Slott, an award-winning author known for shaping the storylines of Spider-Man at Marvel Comics, has decided to work with the competition, moving from Marvel to DC Comics.

After being tied exclusively to Marvel since the late 2000s, Slott is now set to make his debut in the DC universe with “Superman Unlimited”. He will pen the monthly comic, a role that will be visually brought to life by Rafael Albuquerque, a renowned artist and co-creator of the acclaimed horror comic “American Vampire”. The news was officially announced by DC on Thursday.

The title is set to be the main motivator for a company-wide project known as “Summer of Superman,” which links up with the upcoming James Gunn film about Superman. This first release from the DC Studios division of Warner Bros. Discovery premieres on July 26.

Starting from May 21, you’ll be able to grab issue number 1 of “Superman Unlimited” at your local comic book stores or online retailers. As a special treat, a 10-page introduction for this new series will be released in the “DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition” No. 1 on May 3. This is part of DC’s Free Comic Book Day events.

Slott expressed his excitement by saying, “He’s the original and most exceptional superhero ever, and I’ve been eagerly waiting my entire life to craft tales about him. It’s not just due to his incredible abilities that excite me, but because of the person he is at heart.

As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I dive into the upcoming comic series! The story begins with an astounding event of cosmic scale: a Kryptonite meteor shower bathes Earth, a mineral that weakens our beloved Superman, disrupting the power dynamics in Metropolis’ criminal underworld and beyond. “To endure, Superman must craft fresh alliances, innovative technology, and novel strategies if he aspires to continue his crusade for truth, justice, and a brighter tomorrow!” This announcement echoes with anticipation!

In simpler terms, “Superman Unlimited” will offer the grand, exciting, airborne adventures that Superman is famous for, while also introducing a large amount of new Kryptonite deposits. This means that in this storyline, Superman may find himself facing a world where even common criminals are armed with Kryptonite weapons, posing unprecedented threats to him and other DC characters associated with Superman, as he has never encountered before.

In the Marvel Universe, Slott penned various comic book series including ‘Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Silver Surfer’, ‘She-Hulk’, ‘Mighty Avengers’ and ‘Superior Spider-Man’.

Or, more casually:

Slott wrote a bunch of Marvel comics like ‘Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Silver Surfer’, ‘She-Hulk’, ‘Mighty Avengers’ and ‘Superior Spider-Man’.

Under the guidance of Slott, Spider-Man’s story took unexpected turns such as swapping bodies with Doctor Octopus and battling a monstrous fusion of Carnage and Green Goblin. These twists occasionally sparked debates among fans, possibly even leading to a few threats, but these comics were consistently popular during the 2010s and had an impact on the plot development in Sony Animation’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.
