On a Thursday morning, Wendy Williams phoned into “The Breakfast Club” to express her opposition towards the guardianship that’s been imposed on her.
The previous daytime talk show host, currently under a conservatorship since 2022 and recently diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, expressed feelings of confinement, saying, “I feel as if I’m in jail.
She mentioned that, despite not having any cognitive impairments, she feels as if she’s trapped, similar to being in a prison. She finds herself in an environment where most residents are in their 90s, 80s, and 70s. To her, there seems to be something unusual about the people on this floor.”

On The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God stated that Williams phoned in as she found herself confined within a conservatorship and unable to depart from her present place.
In April 2023, Williams was admitted into an unspecified institution following the assignment of Sabrina Morrissey as his court-assigned caretaker. Later in 2022, Morrissey declared in a New York court that Williams was mentally incapacitated, prompting Wells Fargo Bank to request a temporary financial conservatorship over him.
Last year, I found myself at the center of the buzzing Lifetime docuseries titled “Where is Wendy Williams?“. Recently, during my show, a special guest joined me – none other than my niece, Alex Finnie. In an intriguing development, she shared details about the high-security facility I’m currently residing in. Consistent with earlier reports suggesting my unreachability, Alex added that while I can place calls, unfortunately, no one is able to reach me directly at this time.
She explained that they don’t permit departures or guests,” she said. “This means you’re unable to step out for a walk or journey, and also can’t visit your family.
As a gamer, let me share my thoughts: “Ever since 2023, she’s been holed up in that room, day and night, week after week, month after month, with minimal sunlight. Last October, I made a trip to New York to see her, only to be met with an overwhelming level of security checks and questions about my identity, purpose for being there, and more. It was truly a harrowing experience.
As for the documentary, Williams said that Morrissey “was the one who wanted to do that.”
She went on to assert that she’s enduring “emotional mistreatment,” asking for thoughts on such treatment. Essentially, she expressed her discontent with the current situation, stating it’s flawed and prone to distortion.
Finnie continued to advocate for her aunt, saying she “sounds great.”
As a fan, I’ve had the privilege of encountering her, albeit briefly. We’ve spoken with her, and it’s evident that she’s not confined by any incapacitating conditions. This is why we refer to her situation as a luxurious prison; she’s detained, she’s penalized for reasons others are conjecturing, and she continues to remain in this position.
Williams explained that her phone was confiscated, which means she can’t place orders herself and must rely on someone else to buy things for her. She wishes to travel to see her 94-year-old father for his birthday in February, but she’s concerned her guardian might not grant her permission.
“At 94, the day after that is not promised,” she said, crying.
Finnie expressed worry that Williams’ family doesn’t know her current location and fears she might be relocated without warning and with no means to reach her. Moreover, Finnie mentioned they are voicing their concerns, aware of the potential risk of reprisals.
Finnie explained, ‘I asked her, “Are you prepared for what lies ahead, given that we’re about to do this?” She replied, “I have no other choice but to do this. It’s all I can do right now.” This conversation is a brief snippet of the challenges we’ve been facing over the past several months and the last couple of years.’
Morrissey attempted to halt the broadcast of the documentary series, but his plea was rejected by a judge, who cited the First Amendment as the reason. Spanning over four hours and airing across two nights on Lifetime, the project portrayed Williams’ deteriorating mental condition following the June 2022 termination of her talk show. The series chronicled her life for most of the year, capturing her battles with family issues, fame, and excessive drinking.
Filming halted as she admitted herself to a mystery health center, and last year, the producer of “Where Is Wendy Williams?”, Mark Ford, expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that “We were more concerned with the potential consequences if we ceased production than if we carried on.
Williams earned the title of executive producer for the project, which was included in a three-movie agreement with Lifetime.
Following her initial efforts to halt the broadcast of the docuseries, Morrissey, fulfilling her temporary guardianship role for Williams, filed a lawsuit against A+E Networks’ parent company in March. The claim was that the contract to produce the documentary was invalid because Williams lacked both the legal and mental ability to consent to her involvement, and she was reportedly told it would have a “positive and beneficial” impact on her public image.
In September, a freshly updated petition concerning the documentary suggested that all earnings from the project should be allocated towards covering her medical expenses.
More to come.
