It’s no secret that this situation was bound to happen, and now, Justin Baldoni, accompanied by his legal team, has officially taken action against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds regarding the controversial “It Ends With Us” incident. The question on everyone’s mind was how Baldoni would respond, and he chose to allege that the influential Hollywood duo misused their industry standing to essentially take his film from him.
By the given deadline, Baldoni has initiated a lawsuit worth $400 million against Lively and Reynolds, alleging defamation and extortion. This lawsuit further includes a request for a jury trial, with the claim that:
[In this suit, Baldoni is arguing] That they [Lively and Reynolds] have slandered him and attempted to extract money from him unlawfully.
This scenario involves two highly influential celebrities using their immense influence to secretly acquire a movie that was originally intended for its director and producing company.
1) Bryan Freedman, legal representative for Baldoni, has submitted a comprehensive lawsuit totaling 179 pages. This legal action is not only filed in Baldoni’s name but also on behalf of his production studio Wayfarer Studios, his PR team members Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel, along with others.
Essentially, this lawsuit isn’t just about famous people feuding in the media. Instead, it targets Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds for their efforts to gain critical acclaim through their work on “It Ends With Us.
It is said that when the couple didn’t receive the recognition they sought, their anger led them to initiate a counter-movement against Baldoni and his team, which eventually culminated in Lively filing a sexual harassment lawsuit. Furthermore, the suit implied that Baldoni’s group retaliated with a defamatory campaign against the actress due to concerns she might expose her claims about the way she was treated during the filming of the popular drama.
Initially, when Lively and Reynolds, convinced that they were entitled to critical acclaim, channeled their frustration towards the person they conveniently blamed, I found myself enduring their behavior for an extended period, maintaining politeness and professionalism at all times. Regrettably, this did not shield Baldoni and Wayfarer from their relentless onslaught.
(In a movie critic’s perspective: In the heat of their quest for recognition they deemed themselves entitled to, Lively and Reynolds unleashed their wrath upon an unfortunate scapegoat. Despite suffering through their behavior for over a year while maintaining my composure and professionalism, I could not shield Baldoni and Wayfarer from their relentless tirade.)
Justin Baldoni’s Lawsuit Asserts Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Abused Their Hollywood Power
The legal dispute between Baldoni and Reynolds centers around whispers that emerged when speculation about a disagreement started following the movie’s premiere. Some people assume that the conflict may have originated from Reynolds being asked to alter a crucial scene in the film without informing Baldoni first.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve come across intriguing news. Apparently, according to a lawsuit, my beloved star Blake Lively allegedly rewrote certain parts of a movie’s script. During a meeting at their New York City residence, it seems Ryan Reynolds was her biggest supporter, encouraging her throughout the process. The suit further mentions that a well-known friend of theirs, who happens to be quite close to both of them, chimed in with praise for Lively’s work. Some speculate this friend could be Taylor Swift, as she contributed a song for the film. It all sounds so fascinating and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!
According to Baldoni, he perceived the meeting as a trap and felt compelled to follow Lively’s instructions regarding the script because he interpreted them as such.
In this ongoing feud between Hollywood celebrities, it appears rather unusual that he alleges, referring to the recent California wildfires, that “Lively not only served her lawsuit on the defendants based in Los Angeles during those wildfires, but she did so while they were evacuating their homes due to the fires ravaging their city.”
Living in Los Angeles myself, I find it highly distasteful that Baldoni and his team would refer to this matter in their legal proceedings. It seems like an attempt to elicit sympathy, which strikes me as entirely inappropriate.
Lively persisted with her strategy, maintaining a relentless approach despite mounting evidence that questioned the truthfulness of her narrative. In fact, she even served her lawsuit on defendants based in Los Angeles, who were evacuating their homes due to fires ravaging their city. On a day when the Defendants were busy rounding up their children and pets, preparing emergency kits, keeping an eye on evacuation orders, and worrying about the fate of their homes, Lively, from her secure residence in New York, dispatched process servers amidst such challenging circumstances.
In other words, it’s crucial to clarify that the plaintiffs don’t decide how documents are given to defendants; instead, this task falls to the process server. This is significant because Baldoni seems to be portraying Lively and Reynolds as the true culprits in the matter of the LA wildfires-related documents, but they had little to no control over when or how these documents were served.
Essentially, Baldoni’s legal dispute centers around his claim that Lively and Reynolds took his film, which later earned a massive $350.9 million globally on a budget of only $25 million. As producers themselves, including Lively, they all profited significantly from this success. The lawsuit alleges that Lively not only stole the movie but also hijacked its premiere, tarnished Baldoni’s personal and professional reputation, and attempted to ruin his business completely.
The lawsuit additionally highlights how Lively acquired the texts and emails suggesting Baldoni and his team were attempting to tarnish the actress’s reputation. Jonesworks, Baldoni’s former publicist who also filed a suit against him, is mentioned in the documents and asserts that Lively obtained Abel’s phone contents as “retribution” following her decision to establish her own business.
Based on what’s been shared, it appears that Jones, Lively, Reynolds, Sloane (Leslie Sloane, who is Lively’s publicist), and others are suspected of devising a scheme. In this plan, Jones was to take Abel’s phone when Lively left and search for messages. The goal was to manipulate these messages out of context, creating a false narrative that suggested the negative media coverage of Lively’s insensitive comments, as well as the public backlash, were not her fault at all. Instead, they were allegedly the outcome of a fictitious smear campaign orchestrated by Baldoni and his team.
It’s intriguing to observe how this situation unfolds from now on. Lively has received backing from several influential figures in Hollywood, along with her “It Ends With Us” co-stars, who have stopped following Baldoni on social media and have not been in touch with him since then. This also applies to Sony Pictures, the studio that distributed the film. While Baldoni is entitled to share his perspective, it seems like every claim he makes about a “Deadpool” character being created to mock him appears to be nothing more than reaching for straws.
