ABC News is elevating one of its up-and-coming journalists, Rachel Scott, to the role of Senior Political Correspondent. In this capacity, she will report on key events happening in the White House under President Trump as well as Congress.
Scott’s promotion coincides with ABC News reorganizing its Washington D.C. team, mirroring other networks as they shuffle their on-air personalities to accommodate changes brought about by the new government.
Previously, Scott held the position of ABC’s congressional correspondent, where she was present at Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. Over the past year, she served as ABC’s primary correspondent following the Trump campaign. She spearheaded coverage of the attempted assassination on Trump’s life in Pennsylvania, and also conducted a groundbreaking interview with Trump during last year’s National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.
According to ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic, “ABC News’ D.C. team stands out in the industry for covering matters that truly matter to our viewers.” He added, “Rachel Scott’s rapid ascent is a testament to her relentless pursuit of truth and understanding the core of each story. I have no doubt she will continue to excel in this new position.
Scott is now working alongside ABC News’ primary White House correspondent, Mary Bruce, who will remain in charge of the team stationed at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, along with Selina Wang, Karen Travers, and Mary Alice Parks.
As a fervent supporter, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of an exceptional team at The White House, alongside Molly Nagle and Michelle Stoddart. They have both diligently covered the Biden White House for ABC News, while Hannah Demissie and Kelsey Walsh, my esteemed colleagues, served as campaign reporters for ABC News during the 2024 election cycle. Together, we’ll strive to bring you the latest news and insights!
Rick Klein serves as the head of ABC’s Washington bureau, alongside Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl, Co-Anchor of “This Week” Martha Raddatz, Global Affairs Correspondent and also Co-Anchor of “This Week” named Jonathan Karl, Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas, and Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran who will all maintain their current positions.
Reporter Elizabeth Schulze will persist in examining the blend of business, economics, and government affairs, joined by radio national reporter Steven Portnoy and correspondent Alex Presha who are both based in Washington D.C.
