On Friday evening, numerous fashion enthusiasts gathered outside SuperStudio to observe the first-time runway appearance of the edgy and action-packed fashion label PDF. This graffiti-adorned, grunge-inspired event was a grand representation of designer Domenico Formichetti’s strong influence on Milan’s streetwear culture.
As I stepped into the heart of Italy’s cityscape, I could feel the buzz in the air – the anticipation for the “Holy Motor” spectacle that had taken the city by storm back in June. That night, under the same roof, 1,500 souls gathered to witness artists like Ghali, Tony Effe, Tedua, and others, collaborating with the brand to showcase their motocross-inspired collection. Now, as I attended the latest event by PDF, it was clear that their bold fashion statements were swiftly becoming the lingua franca of Milan’s edgy fashion enthusiasts.
Titled “United Jam,” Formichetti’s Fall 2025 collection drew inspiration from the ’90s and 2000s hip-hop era, focusing particularly on the iconic music videos of that time, as well as movies such as ‘Boyz n the Hood,’ ‘Paid in Full,’ and ‘Menace II Society.’ Instead of being a mere nostalgic tribute, it aimed to rejuvenate the fashion trends of the period—think baggy jerseys, chunky Timberlands, and oversized denim—by incorporating elements from contemporary snowboarding outfits and high-tech mountain apparel.
At its heart, this assembly explores the concept of blending, as expressed through the fusion of various cultures,” explained Formichetti. “It’s about capturing the points where hip-hop and snowboarding, urban and mountainous landscapes meet, and how these intersections give birth to something uniquely innovative. I aimed to create garments that embody the dynamism of a music video yet serve as practical performance wear.
In the runway for PDF’s Fall 2025 collection, a diverse group of models, artists, and friends such as Moise Keane, Sita Abellan, Alvin Kamara, and Taylil James gathered near a white brick wall. After they completed their initial circle around the empty stage, graffiti artists swiftly took control, covering the structure with a vibrant array of PDF symbols. The chaos was short-lived as blaring sirens and fake police officers intervened. This wild display mirrored the rebellious spirit of the label’s patrons, who cheered loudly when the models returned for the grand finale.
In simple terms, Formichetti ended by saying, “This is a heartfelt tribute to the culture that has molded me, yet it’s also a challenge – an invitation to dream about what lies ahead.
