It’s important to note that while many people associate Disney with film production or theme park construction, an equally crucial aspect of the company’s success is its merchandise business related to these movie and park experiences. This third pillar often contributes significantly, if not more, to Disney’s overall profits.
From as early as the initial Mickey Mouse plush doll, merchandising has played a significant role in Disney’s commercial approach. It seems like Disney will merchandise almost anything! Every year, they launch new merchandise to support their new movies, fresh Disney World attractions, the anniversaries of films and theme park attractions, and various other items they believe will be popular among consumers. This is why it came as a surprise when I managed to obtain an item from Disney World that you technically can’t purchase, but logically should be available for sale.
Disney World Released A Unique Item For Space Mountain’s 50th Anniversary
50 years ago, on January 15th, 2025, marked the golden anniversary of Space Mountain’s debut at Walt Disney World – the original rendition of Disney Parks’ famous ride. Notably, I recently obtained an unusual item: a growth chart styled after Disney World, which, if available for sale, I believe Disney could sell in massive quantities.
The object measures five feet in length and has markings at each inch, resembling a typical growth chart used by families to monitor their child’s height progress. As a parent of two young ones, I too maintain such a record using a specific doorframe within my own home.
This unique height chart, on the other hand, distinguishes itself by marking every Walt Disney World attraction with a height requirement at corresponding points. As a result, children can not only monitor their growth, but also visualize their progress towards riding popular Disney World attractions that they are approaching eligibility for.
How Are Disney World And Disneyland Height Charts Not Already A Thing?
As a frequent visitor to theme parks and a dad who enjoys sharing that joy with my kids whenever possible, I’ll make sure to keep this chart handy for our family adventures. Not only will it help me, but I can imagine others doing the same, strategically planning their park trips around these milestones. Once a child reaches the height requirement for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, trust me, they’ll be eager to give it a spin!
The chart additionally serves as a means to adjust anticipation. Just as it’s disheartening to find out a desired ride is closed at Disney World, it can be disappointing to learn you’re not tall enough to ride it. However, this provides a tangible method for children to grasp their limitations before they arrive at the destination.
It’s quite intuitive that Disney Parks and their online store might offer items like these, yet I can’t seem to find any proof they have in the past. These items serve as a dual purpose: merchandise and marketing. This kind of cross-promotion aligns perfectly with Disney’s usual strategy.
Each Disney Parks location might offer unique versions, specifying the height requirements for their rides. These could be designed with various themes tailored to the specific attraction that a child is most excited about reaching.
After observing this, I find it hard to believe such a thing doesn’t currently exist. It’s so ingenious that, at the very least, it seems like something we should have access to right now. Could we make it happen, please?
