For many years, Sonu Nigam has been a significant figure in the Indian film industry, collaborating with some of the most prominent names in music, such as AR Rahman and Pritam. Yet, in a recent interview, Sonu admitted to having offended Pritam by highlighting certain differences between him and Rahman. Interestingly, Sonu mentioned that Pritam pays close attention to intricate details.
In a chat with O2 India, Sonu Nigam discussed his collaborations with renowned music directors, AR Rahman and Pritam. He mentioned that these two masters of Indian music have unique approaches to their work. Rahman allows singers considerable freedom in their performances, whereas Pritam delves deeply into the intricate details of each composition.
Speaking about an old event, Nigam mentioned that he once commented on a contrast between Pritam and AR Rahman. The famous singer from “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin” shared, “I remember saying to Pritam that you’re completely different from AR Rahman. I told him that Rahman is well-known for his compositions and doesn’t bother anyone, while you seem overly particular about details. He might have been upset at the time, but I was just expressing what I felt.
Speaking with great admiration for AR Rahman, also known as “Papa Meri Jaan,” the singer acknowledged that he doesn’t provide instructions but instead encourages his singers to perform. Emphasizing Rahman’s unique quality, he further mentioned that every singer would affirm that he never imposes or bothers them in any way.
Sonu made it clear that Pritam represents a distinct perspective. He delves deep into the details, and he’s not off base. Everyone has their unique approach. On the other hand, AR Rahman grants singers a great deal of freedom, which makes them feel less pressured when they perform.
Currently, in the professional sphere, Pritam is now part of the music group for Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr’s upcoming film, War 2. Previously, it was exclusively revealed by TopMob that Pritam and Ayan Mukerji would collaborate again on War 2.
“Pritam has been a frequent collaborator with Aditya Chopra on various films such as Dhoom, Dhoom 2, New York, Badmaash Company, Dhoom 3, and most recently, Tiger 3. It’s reported that the duo of Adi and Ayan have a strong connection with Pritam, and they are eager to work together again on War 2.”
