Currently, there’s a great deal of curiosity surrounding and his upcoming adventures in Gotham City. Unfortunately, we’ll have to be patient a bit longer before witnessing him tackle his next challenge. Nevertheless, in an exclusive chat with Esquire, the star of ‘Mickey 17’, Robert Pattinson, delved into an unexpected topic – the scent associated with his characters. This unusual discussion stemmed from promoting a new Dior Homme Parfum, as Pattinson serves as a global ambassador for the brand.
During an unusual discussion that eventually steered towards films, Robert Pattinson disclosed a previously unmentioned aspect of his audition process for the role of Batman. Additionally, he offered a unique perspective to fans about what it’s like wearing the iconic cowl, and even dared to name his favorite “scent-sational” Batman actor from the past. Can you guess who made the cut? According to the interview:
ESQUIRE: Are there scents you associate with characters you’ve played?
PATTINSON: Definitely the scent of the cowl, with Batman – very much.
ESQUIRE: What does that smell of?
As a devoted cinephile, let me share my perspective: This “leather” is more than just material; it’s a blend. You see, you’re confined within a leather mask, yet the anxiety never seems to dissipate. Leather is permeable, and it absorbs emotions profoundly. During my audition for Batman, I had to don various cowls, each worn by different actors. Even those from two decades past still carried the scent of their original wearer – a peculiar phenomenon that adds an intriguing layer to the experience.
ESQUIRE: Who smelt the best?
PATTINSON: I think probably [George] Clooney smelt the best.
It’s not too shocking, given the circumstances, and let’s face it – no one desires a smelly Batman. Therefore, there must be something unique about each cowl that reflects its previous owner’s preferred scent. Nevertheless, in Matt Reeves’ version of The Batman, the portrayal is shaping up to be one of the best and most impactful adaptations of the Dark Knight ever seen on screen, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the franchise’s next release.
‘The Batman: Part II’ Is Not Coming Soon
It appears that “The Batman: Part II” may not hit the screens until five years following Robert Pattinson’s successful debut in 2022, so fans will have to exercise patience for another two years. Some have expressed disappointment over this extended wait and speculated about potential production issues, but it’s essential to remember that movie-making is a lengthy process, particularly when projects are planned well ahead of time.
Many movies have sequels released within a year or two following the original film, however, these films are often in development for several years before their release dates are announced. Examples of this include the two-part release of the movie “Wicked” and Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which were filmed as a whole with only minor post-production work required. The sequel to “The Batman,” titled “The Batman: Part II,” didn’t receive official approval until after the success of the first film, leading to a production timeline that is longer than usual in comparison to other movies.
It’s quite typical for a sequel to take around five to six years to develop, as Reeves has noted. For instance, fans of Avatar had to endure a 13-year gap between the first and second films, and let us not forget the 30-year interval between Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick. In contrast, the followers of The Batman are fortunate enough not to have to wait at all.
