Pop sensation Charli XCX is set to appear in another movie, this time with a script she came up with herself, according to Variety. The film, titled “The Moment,” will be Charli’s first production under her newly established Studio365 company. A24 will handle distribution for the project, which marks the feature directing debut of photographer-turned-filmmaker Aidan Zamiri. Zamiri, who directed two music videos for Charli (“360” and “Guess,” featuring Billie Eilish), co-wrote the script with Bertie Brandes. While specifics about the plot are being kept secret, A.G. Cook, a longtime collaborator of Charli’s and producer of her award-winning sixth album “Brat,” will create the soundtrack.
It’s fitting that the title of The Moment is chosen, as it seems Charli XCX is truly living in her time of recognition. She has been riding a wave of pop culture fame since the Brat summer phenomenon of 2024, garnering numerous accolades for her album, such as seven Grammy nominations, a performance on Saturday Night Live, and an impressive slate of upcoming movies announced in the past year.
She’s set to show up in seven upcoming projects, some noteworthy examples being:
1. “I Want Your Sex”, directed by queer cinema icon Greg Araki. In this project, Charli will share the screen with Olivia Wilde, Mason Gooding, and Cooper Hoffman.
2. “The Gallerist”, a dark comedy helmed by Cathy Yan, who also directed “Birds of Prey”. This movie boasts stars like Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman.
3. A remake of the notorious horror mockumentary “Faces of Death”.
And there are several other exciting titles in the pipeline as well!
Charli Studied Acting Before Diving Into Her First Roles
Looking back at my journey in 2024, I found myself stepping into the world of acting, a field I’ve grown to love. Every day on set was a new lesson, and I made sure to study and prepare diligently before diving headfirst into these screen roles.
I’m loving my experience of studying on film sets under talented directors and actors. It irks me when artists leap into new fields without proper research and study, so for the last few years I’ve been reading extensively to educate myself before taking any action.
Charli also revealed she got advice on hosting SNL from Oscar-nominated Wicked star Ariana Grande.
She essentially said, “You’ll be fantastic, just unwind, it’s a blast,” regarding contact lenses, I didn’t follow her suggestion on the night. However, her general advice – trust the process, go with the flow, and not try to excessively control things that will sort themselves out over time – I definitely took to heart. Given Lorne Michaels’ reputation, it was hard not to heed his advice.
When inquired about her readiness for the limelight that accompanies being a pop star and actress, Charli expressed some uncertainty, stating she was at a pivotal point in her life. However, with the recent announcement of her new leading role, it appears that Charli is gracefully embracing the Hollywood limelight. David Hinojosa is overseeing the production of The Moment through his company 2AM. Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright, and Zach Nutman will serve as executive producers.
