Just as clockwork dictates, Rick Owens unveils his Fall/Winter 2025 collection at the Palais de Tokyo. This year’s presentation, titled “Concordians,” pays homage to Concordia, Italy – a small industrial town that has been home to his brand’s factory for the last 22 years.
Over the past two decades, the designer has often pondered his numerous visits to Concordia. The turning point for this collection was in 2003 when Owens and Michèle Lamy chose to relocate from Los Angeles to Paris, seeking European production and distribution opportunities. Regular trips to Concordia have become a significant part of Owens’ life and the collection’s development. In the early years in Concordia, he even slept on the factory floor, immersing himself in the industrial production routine that was new to him. He also lived in a nearby hotel with minimal amenities, making do with just a suitcase. More recently, Owens undertook a customization project with Rimowa, which caused him to reflect on his days of traveling light. Despite spending many years living out of a suitcase, he now realizes the importance of not relying too much on material possessions, “I can need less but make choices matter more. I want to depend on fewer things but make them as extraordinary as possible.
In this collection, Rick Owens draws heavily from his personal perspective on essential items. The term “Concordians” refers to a variety of multi-purpose outfits that help you make thoughtful choices about what to carry while maintaining a consistent aesthetic. Influenced by Owens’ dark style, you’ll find dramatic Dracula-collared coats crafted from robust vegan tanned calf leather and flared jeans with layers of bronze foil and wax on denim. This season, Rick Owens reimagines his platforms for a workwear look, calling them the Factory and characterized by rounded soles and non-slip finishes.
To adapt to his transition from California to Europe, thermal clothing forms the foundation of most looks in this collection. He found that it completely transformed his perspective on winter after moving from sunny California. Unusual elements include shredded and collaged jeans with an otherworldly feel, while jackets and coats are tailored in a blend of British mélange wool felt and kemp.
The music for this collection is “Heroes” by David Bowie, which Owens considers the soundtrack to many lives. He evokes a scene of “a village train station on a cold foggy night as you journey towards an unusual and wondrous future.
