- Flashy set of earbuds.
- Plug and play or Bluetooth
- Short battery life
Have you ever bought an item because it was exceptionally stylish, unique, or just plain impressive? If earbuds are your focus, let me tell you about the Hecate GX05 – it’s a real head-turner, which is not so common in this category. You may have seen plenty of earbuds tucked away in their compact cases that open and close, but the Hecate GX05 stands out with its innovative features or sleek design. There are models with cutting-edge technology such as tiny LED screens for volume control, while others opt for a more minimalist approach. However, they all deliver as expected.
It’s just so cool.
Regarding the Hecate GX05, it’s an impressive piece that exudes a wow factor. Upon unboxing the substantial, plastic, weighty container, you’ll find a metal triangular device inside. It’s quite a unique, engaging item. I can’t quite put my finger on the words, but it’s not like using earbuds; instead, it’s more akin to playing with a nifty gadget. To unlock it, you simply twist the metal lid on top, which rotates in only one direction. This motion triggers the case to illuminate, another cool feature. The oversized box is a bit cumbersome for carrying around, so there’s a compact pouch provided that can be used to slide the triangle into and take with you conveniently.
Nestled within a sleek metallic enclosure, I discovered not just two earbuds but also a petite USB-C 2.4GHz dongle – an added advantage that offers swift and stable connectivity with minimal latency to my smartphone. Interestingly, it supports Bluetooth too for those who prefer it. The compact metallic case neatly houses everything together, ensuring portability and convenience. For PC users like myself, the dongle can be easily inserted into a USB slot on your laptop or computer, expanding its compatibility.
The Hecate GX05 also comes with two earbuds of different sizes, so you have the standard three sizes total, along with a tiny cable that can connect to your cage to charge everything.
What about Battery Life?
At the base of the charging dock, you’ll spot a small switch that alters the device’s lighting settings. You can even switch off the light if preferred, extending the battery life slightly. However, I find the battery life for such an exciting product quite underwhelming. Initially, it offers approximately 3.5 hours of usage, which is quite limited in my opinion. The numerous flashy features of the case might be the reason for this short battery life, but I can’t help but wish for a longer battery span, especially since it’s wireless. Personally, I would find myself running out of battery during my commutes on the tube.
Sound and Comfort
The Hexcate GX05 isn’t a very large set of earbuds, they fit comfortably in my ear. The sound quality is what you’d expect from Edifier – it’s great. There isn’t a noticeable delay between what you see and what you hear. It’s a very decent, flashy pair of earbuds that will get comments from friends and make you feel extremely cool.
