Interface” – UNDERCOVER‘s FW25 Lookbook Explores a Journey
The lookbook for UNDERCOVER’s FW25 collection starts with sleek, minimalist black tailoring and concludes in a vibrant mix of elements inspired by 1970’s Krautrock and playful mythical creatures. Jun Takahashi’s design for this collection, celebrating the 35th anniversary of his brand, combines futuristic and nostalgic aesthetics, drawing on his punk past while modernizing contemporary styles.
The lookbook commences with a sequence of outfits, all linked by a black-on-black patchwork theme. Classic menswear items such as a two-piece suit, a double-breasted coat, a parka, and a button-up shirt are showcased. From different viewpoints, the seams on these garments are highlighted with visible taping, giving them a fresh, modern touch. The models are adorned with halos that emit a soft, fluorescent glow.
Afterward, Takahashi illuminates the dimly lit studio with smoke machines and vibrant neon lasers, leaving trails of multi-colored wires on the floor. The collection showcases motifs from Krautrock bands, such as a white sweater reminiscent of Faust and a sleeveless hoodie resembling Moebius. Among the visually striking pieces, a standout is a puffer jacket adorned with a full-color print of a cyborg Sci-Fi illustration.
Currently in this stage of the assortment, models are dressed with leggings paired with knitted shorts that have a brushed texture, followed later by plaid skirts – evoking Takahashi’s initial punk influences once more. Moving ahead, plaid materials transition into tweed suit jackets and fitted pants, only to be replaced by fresh patterns adorned with monster drawings by the late Spanish artist Josep Baqué.
To provide a harmonious balance against the predominantly masculine styles, this collection emphasizes an array of garden gloves, bowler hats, and caps embellished with delicate flowers and luxurious gems. Towards the end, vibrant shades of turquoise, electric blue, yellow, and red emerge as dominant colors, largely supplanting the minimalist monochrome color scheme that was initially adopted for the collection’s beginning.
