Dick Van Dyke Reveals His Longevity Secret at 99

At the ripe age of 99, renowned actor Dick Van Dyke continues to display an agility and clarity of mind that belies his years. He’s now sharing insights into his secrets for maintaining his vibrant vitality as he prepares to embark on another century.

The actor known for roles in “Mary Poppins” and “Night at the Museum” shared with hosts Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen that he has maintained a workout routine of three times a week since he started, which continues to this day.

In other words, ‘Someone asked, “What causes your age and health status?” Van Dyke replied, “I’ve been working out three times a week for a long time.” To this day, we still exercise three times a week, and I believe that’s the key.’

Danston mentioned spotting Van Dyke at the gym and was astounded, “If I managed to arrive early enough, I’d catch you exercising on a weight machine, and then – it seemed more like dance training than walking – you’d move to the next machine, not by walking, but dancing. You actually dance to the next machine! And you shared that you would go to the gym, work out, and then head home for a swim. After that, you’d return to bed for a nap.

“Exactly,” confirmed Van Dyke.

Asked about his preferred workouts at the gym, Van Dyke responded, “I’m focusing on a lot of flexibility exercises, similar to yoga, along with sit-ups. They also have various machines that cater to almost any type of workout.

Danston mentioned that Van Dyke shared with him his realization of aging only around fifteen years back, when he was requested to pen a book on the topic, leading to the publication of the book titled “Keep Moving“.

Dick Van Dyke is an individual who has won Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards, was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995, received the Screen Actors Guild life achievement award in 2012, and was honored at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2021. In 2023, to celebrate Dick Van Dyke’s 98th birthday, CBS – the same network where he started his TV career in 1955 – aired the special program Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic.

Van Dyke will turn 100 years old in December.
