These days, it’s quite common to witness celebrities aligning their red carpet styles with their upcoming film projects, such as Zendaya did in 2024 while promoting “Challengers” through her distinctive tennis-inspired fashion, which she pioneered years earlier. This trend, known as method dressing, has significantly enhanced celebrity fashion, and Jennifer Lopez joined the trend by donning two Spider-Woman looks at the premieres of “Kiss of the Spider Woman” at the Sundance Film Festival.
The upcoming movie “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” produced by Ben Affleck’s company, features his former wife, Jennifer Lopez, portraying Ingrid Luna. In this film, the character known as the Spider Woman dispatches her victims with a deadly kiss. However, no actual kiss was required at the movie’s premiere on January 26, as JLo dazzled in a stunning black lace gown adorned with crystal spiderwebs instead.
According to InStyle, Valdrin Sahiti created the dress. It featured intricate spiderweb patterns of Hassanzadeh crystals, with the main concentration on the wearer’s side and then spreading out into webs across the long, transparent sleeves and full-length skirt. The fitted design accentuated her new physique, which she has been proudly displaying since her divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized; she even donned swimwear during a snowy New Year’s holiday.
JLo complemented her spider-rific look with a tousled up-do and sultry glam makeup. She carried a black velvet clutch and finished the look with black platform pumps. The actress sported a similar look at the afterparty, dramatically losing her furry coat in an Instagram reel to reveal a bodysuit of similarly bejeweled cobwebs:

They’ve got a similar ethereal, webby vibe going on like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney did during the Madame Web press tour, and we can only wish Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming movie will fare better at the box office than last year’s superhero film.
The musical adaptation titled “Kiss of the Spider Woman” takes place in a Argentine prison during 1981, where a gay hairdresser named Luis Molina (Tonatiuh) finds solace from his harsh confinement by visualizing films starring Ingrid Luna, portrayed as a spider woman who possesses lethal kisses.
The film appears fascinating, and I’m eagerly anticipating further details about its theatrical launch, which may offer us even more captivating performances from the lead actor.
While we admire the fitting fashion styles, let’s also express our gratitude to Zendaya for pioneering the coordinated dressing trend and making outfits such as these feasible. Margot Robbie’s 2023 Barbie-inspired looks during her press tour sparked a massive Barbiecore trend, leading many to credit Robbie as the initiator of such fashion-conscious marketing. However, Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach have been consistent with their thematic outfits since as early as 2017 for the premiere of The Greatest Showman.
After that, we’ve also noticed Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande preparing for their roles as Elphaba and Glinda respectively by donning green and pink costumes in anticipation of the 2024 release of Wicked, while Jenna Ortega has been putting in a lot of effort with her unique “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” method of dressing for the same.
It’s quite entertaining to notice how performers blend their characters into their gowns for the red carpet, and perhaps Jennifer Lopez will continue to amaze us with more spider-themed looks in the future.
