Oh, dear me! It seems President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has caught the digital bug! 🐞 He’s on a wild chase to expand his nation’s crypto kingdom, calling for a lightning-speed transformation of the country’s digital doughnut shops.
With the Yanks becoming all buddy-buddy with Bitcoin, our dear leader Tokayev is jumping on the bandwagon like a cat on a hot tin roof. He’s eager to sprinkle some crypto fairy dust over Kazakhstan’s rather dusty infrastructure.
In a grand meeting of muckety-mucks, Tokayev sang like a canary about the need to hustle and bustle. He pointed out that most of Kazakhstan’s crypto cowboys are riding in the “gray zone” – whatever that means! 🤔 He claims only a puny 5% of investors are playing nice on regulated playgrounds like the ones in the swanky International Financial Center in Astana.
“…Experts say just a teensy 5% of Kazakhstan’s crypto cowboys are playing by the rules, while the rest are moseying around in this ‘gray zone.’ We need to whip up an infrastructure faster than you can say ‘crypto’ for the legal shenanigans of digital assets. Our financial nannies must cook up the right laws, pronto!”

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s financial hounds are on a scent to sniff out naughty crypto exchanges. In 2024, they shut down a whopping 36 dodgy platforms that were rolling in dough – a cool 60 billion tenge, or a bit over 112 million dollars. Not bad for a day’s work!
As crypto.news gleefully reported earlier, the regulators also put a big fat padlock on over 3,500 crypto cowboys’ websites, teaming up with the National Security Committee and the Ministry of Culture and Information. A regular tag-team takedown!
