‘I Hate Rules’: Christina Haack Shares Her Approach To Advantages In HGTV’s The Flip Off, And Tarek And Heather Rae El Moussa Definitely Have Thoughts

Light spoilers ahead for the series premiere of The Flip Off.

The beloved “Flip or Flop” series continues its run, as exes Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa are set to team up once more on HGTV in 2025 for a high-stakes competition show titled “The Flip Off“. In this program, the iconic duo and former spouses go head-to-head to discover which of them can successfully flip a house to achieve the greatest financial profit. Tarek will be working alongside his wife Heather Rae El Moussa, while Christina forges ahead following her divorce from husband Josh Hall. With every competitor needing to make the most of any opportunity they can find, and Christina particularly favoring fewer rules, it promises to be an exciting showdown!

During an interview at TopMob for their upcoming show, all three main actors shared insights on the unconventional rules (or absence thereof) in “The Flip Off”. Right from the debut episode, it was evident that these stars are serious about claiming victory – and a vacation funded by the opposing team – as Haack demonstrated by not allowing personal tension with her husband, followed by an approaching divorce, to sideline her.

I recently had a simultaneous chat with all three of them before their premiere, and they shared their thoughts on whether they’d adhere to guidelines or go with the flow. In the world of Selling Sunset, Heather Rae El Moussa, one of the alums, enthusiastically commented about Christina Haack: “She absolutely detests rules!” The former couple then engaged in a lively discussion on this subject.

  • Christina: “I hate rules.”
  • Tarek: “Her only rule is there are no rules, which is hard in a competition when you have to follow rules.”
  • Christina: If your rules are anything that comes to your mind, it gives you advantage!

Tarek playfully mocked Christina by making jokes related to the series debut on January 29th. He said “Okay, kitchen!” and “Pardon me, ‘transformation'” in response to her remarks. On the other hand, Christina implied that it was all done for a bigger “Wow effect.

In my opinion, during the review process, Heather Rae El Moussa made it clear that the structure of the show was more flexible than traditional formats.

In Season 1 of this show, we didn’t have a fully established plan, so we made it up as we went along, with some basic guidelines to start. However, as the episodes progressed, we found ourselves needing to adapt and create new rules, which sometimes didn’t align with what the main character wanted, and vice versa. As you watch the season unfold, you’ll understand why these discussions are relevant.

It’s important to mention that the camaraderie among the three Flip Off stars appeared to be jovial and lighthearted, as Heather Rae El Moussa commented that they enjoyed each other’s company greatly, particularly when Josh was no longer involved, during their time on the show.

Viewers attending the premiere might have observed that the mood became more cheerful when Christina assembled her own squad following her husband’s departure from the program, an event that was not entirely unexpected given the preview of Josh becoming upset with Christina before the first episode aired.

In the initial kitchen renovation contest of “The Flip,” Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa emerged victorious. However, there are still five episodes remaining until we find out who between them and Christina Haack will ultimately win in the first season. Don’t forget to catch new episodes of “The Flip Off” every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV to see which ex-“Flip or Flop” team you’ll be supporting!
