‘Carmelo Anthony Defends Michael Jordan and LeBron James: Scottie Pippen’s GOAT Claims Criticized’

Over the last few years, Scottie Pippen has caused a stir in the basketball community with his comments about Michael Jordan, his former teammate on the Chicago Bulls. He’s accused Jordan of damaging the sport, labeled him as a poor player, and even declared that neither Jordan nor LeBron James deserve the title of NBA’s Greatest of All Time (GOAT). These statements sparked a reaction from Carmelo Anthony.

59-year-old, seven-time All-Star, who was a recent guest on Valuetainment Media with Patrick Bet-David, discussed extensively about Michael Jordan. He stated that they were never close friends and he believes he could still win six championships without Jordan. Regarding the debate over greatness, he shared his perspective on where Jordan and LeBron James rank among the greatest of all time. However, Carmelo Anthony, in a podcast episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn (available on YouTube), expresses a different viewpoint.

Hey Scottie, I think we should reconsider this action, buddy. It’s not right for you to keep repeating this behavior, though, Scottie. Remember, you spent time in the bunker with Michael, you fought side by side with him. You committed to the Breakfast Club for six years. You were part of that team. Don’t rob the guard of his past now, after so many years have passed. Regardless of your feelings towards him – that’s who he is. That’s Michael. You understand the dynamics at play with that person.

In 2021, Scottie Pippen expressed dissatisfaction with “The Last Dance” – a 10-part ESPN documentary series about the Chicago Bulls, which Michael Jordan’s production company had significant creative input on. Pippen asserted that Jordan used the documentary, available for streaming with a Netflix subscription, to boost his own image. Since then, Pippen has voiced various criticisms of Jordan, some of which he shared in his memoir titled “Unguarded”. Notably, Pippen also stated that he would be willing to play alongside Jordan again if the chance presented itself.

It appears that Carmelo Anthony is troubled by the apparent inconsistency in the Hall of Famer’s opinions, specifically regarding his views on Greatest of All Time (GOAT) debates. He believes that Scottie Pippen’s stance on GOATs seems to change depending on the discussions he’s involved in. Regarding Pippen not giving enough credit to his friend, LeBron James, Melo has some direct thoughts to express.

Regarding LeBron, let’s show respect for his greatness, similar to how we honor Magic Johnson. They are exceptional players, the best in our league, along with a few others. It would be best to set aside any disagreements about LeBron, Scottie.

Draymond Green recently responded to Scottie Pippen’s remarks, echoing similar sentiments as Carmelo Anthony but in a more subtle way. Green suggested that Pippen might harbor lingering personal issues with Michael Jordan, explaining his frequent criticisms of the basketball legend. Over the past few years, numerous individuals have chimed in on Pippen’s assessments of Jordan. Charles Barkley fired back at those comments, implying that Pippen was merely hyping up sales for his memoir by grandstanding. Former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy also took issue with Pippen’s persistent criticism of MJ.

Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen still haven’t spoken since not long after the release of “The Last Dance”, leaving fans to debate who is the greatest of all time (GOAT). In my opinion, both Jordan and LeBron James could be considered for this title. I suspect Carmelo Anthony would concur, and it’s intriguing to see what other basketball legends have to say on this topic.
