I Can’t Stop Watching Ariana Grande, Saoirse Ronan And Even Julia Louis-Dreyfus Do Their Own Renditions Of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’

Over the past year, Sabrina Carpenter has skyrocketed to fame, with a significant boost coming from her early release of the single “Espresso” before her Coachella performance in April. This single propelled her to close out Season 49 of Saturday Night Live, which was then parodied during Season 50 of the variety sketch series. The story reached its climax when Marcello Hernandez was “arrested” as Domingo during one of her concerts on the Short n’ Sweet Tour. Now, the song has progressed to a new stage, with celebrities like Ariana Grande and Saoirse Ronan lending their voices for dramatic readings of it.

In celebration of the 2025 Grammys telecast, W Magazine tasked a list of all-stars including Grande, Ronan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Selena Gomez, Cynthia Erivo, Zoe Saldaña, Harris Dickinson, Ryan Destiny, Drew Starkey, and several others to perform dramatic readings of the now-Grammy-winning song. Some really put their all into it with very dramatic readings, while others were content to sing, and some just read it plainly. But it was all too good when combined, as seen below:

It seems reasonable to assume that, given the title “Espresso,” one might expect Grande to actually sing it. However, what we got was just a dramatic recitation instead. Nevertheless, I’m eagerly hoping she’ll sing the song for another video in the future.

Moreover, Ronan’s belief that the song was titled “Nespresso” seemed to perfectly tie everything up, and it’s likely not just her who thought this. It’s understandable that Gomez joined in singing, given she was quite enthusiastic during the Short n’ Sweet Tour last year with friends.

In the past, W Magazine has staged dramatic readings for songs by artists such as Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter. Furthermore, “Espresso” isn’t the only Carpenter song to receive a dramatic reading; they also did one for “Please Please Please,” which featured Paul Mescal, Andrew Garfield, Demi Moore, and Pamela Anderson among others, and it was simply amazing. If they were to do a dramatic reading of “Juno” now, it might just take the top spot, especially if it included a “Juno”-inspired pose.

Despite the fact that her song “Espresso” was likely one of the biggest hits in 2024, Carpenter has expressed one issue with the title – she’s intentionally avoided drinking espresso. Given her frequent exposure to it while promoting the song last year, it wouldn’t be surprising if ordering an espresso at a Starbucks or Dunkin’ would feel too clichéd. However, that hasn’t stopped her from enjoying herself while performing the catchy tune.

After bagging three Grammy awards recently, it’s clear that Carpenter isn’t planning to take a break anytime soon. In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see more captivating renditions or humorous takes on her songs coming up. Given the recent developments in her personal life following her split with Barry Keoghan, it seems like she’s keeping herself busy. I can hardly wait to see what exciting projects she has lined up next!
